The City prides itself on being a full-service municipal organization with over 265 full-and part-time employee equivalents. The City Manager leads a talented Executive Team representing, Administrative Services, City Clerk, Community & Economic Development, Information Technology, Library, Police, Public Works, Recreation and Human Services, and contract Fire Services. The Library Director serves as a key member of the Executive Team, advising the City Manager on library-related matters and leading the development and administration of programs that address the community's library needs through innovative technology, programs, services, and strategic partnerships. The Department The Glendora Public Library is a full-service operation dedicated to enriching the community by connecting people to the world of ideas, information, and imagination in support of work, education, personal growth, and enjoyment. Serving as both a center for learning and welcoming gathering place, the Library stimulates civic involvement and stands as a symbol of the community's well-being. The Library welcomes approximately 500 visitors each day and provides access to extensive collections, digital resources, and a wide variety of programs and services designed to meet the evolving needs and interests of residents of all ages, including more than 57,000 annual streaming titles accessed across all digital platforms. The Glendora Public Library is organized into two primary divisions: Public Services and Support Services. . Under the direction of the Library Director, these divisions are led by two experienced and capable Library Services Managers and supported by an Administrative Assistant and Senior Management Analyst. . The Department includes 12 full-time employees and 8.3 FTE for part-time staff. The Library Department operates in accordance with the City's Strategic Plan, using City Council priorities to guide departmental goals, programs, and service delivery. The Public Services Division delivers comprehensive library programs, resources, and services for children, teens, adults, and families. The division promotes early literacy, lifelong learning, personal enrichment, and civic engagement through story times, educational programming, literacy initiatives, cultural activities, and seasonal programs such as the Summer Discovery Challenge and Youth Advisory Board. Staff assist patrons with accessing library collections, digital resources, and technology services while fostering reading development and community connection. The division also develops partnerships with local schools, preschools, community organizations, and educational institutions to expand access to library services and strengthen outreach efforts throughout the community. The Support Services Division focuses on the procurement, processing, cataloging, and circulation of library materials to ensure efficient access to collections and resources. The division manages day-to-day operational functions including circulation desk services, the Technology Center, facility bookings, and interlibrary loan services. Staff support the ongoing maintenance and organization of library collections, coordinate material processing, and oversee operational systems that contribute to effective customer service and overall library operations. Library management is directed by the Library Director, who provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the Department. The Director oversees development and administration of the department budget, long-range planning efforts, policy development, and grant development initiatives that support the Library's evolving service goals. In addition, the Director works closely with the Board of Library Trustees and manages key partnerships, including the City's affiliation with the Glendora Public Library Friends Foundation, to strengthen community support, expand resources, and advance the Library's mission and strategic priorities. The Position The City of Glendora is seeking an engaging, collaborative, and forward-thinking leader to serve as its next Library Director. Reporting to the City Manager, the Library Director provides strategic and administrative oversight of the City's library system, guiding operations across Public Services, Support Services, the Library Friends Foundation, literacy initiatives, volunteer programs, grant development, and related functions. In recent discussions with staff, stakeholders, and community members, there has been thoughtful and constructive dialogue about the condition of the library facility. While the building continues to serve as an important community asset, these conversations have highlighted areas where improvements are needed to ensure the space fully supports modern library services and community expectations. City leadership has conducted a comprehensive assessment of facility conditions, identifying key priorities and opportunities for enhancement. Importantly, this work is already underway, with efforts focused on addressing near-term needs while planning for longer-term investments that will strengthen the library's role as a vibrant community hub. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and energetic leader, a skilled communicator, and a strategic thinker who can build on this momentum. They will be adept at organizing and prioritizing a diverse work program, including ongoing operations, service enhancements, and capital improvements, ensuring the timely and effective delivery of services. Strong customer service, presentation, and financial acumen is essential, including experience managing departmental budgets, navigating a variety of funding sources and regulatory requirements, and sharing challenges during public meetings. As the head of the department, the Director will bring a strong commitment to staff development, mentorship, and team building. They will be an effective and confident communicator, comfortable engaging with staff, the City Council, commissions, partner agencies, and the community. A thorough understanding of modern library principles and practices is essential, along with the ability to translate those principles into responsive policies and programs. The Library Director provides staff support to the Library Board of Trustees and the Glendora Public Library Friends Foundation, and serves as a key member of the City's executive management team-working collaboratively to advance citywide priorities and enhance quality of life for the Glendora community. Education and Experience The successful candidate will possess any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to lead a high performing Library team. A Master's degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association's accredited program and five years of progressively responsible professional library experience, including three years of supervisory or administrative experience.
