Job Description
Under the direction of the Principal, the Licensed Health/Wellness Teacher educates special education students about physical education and health and wellness topics. The Home for Little Wanderer's Clifford Academy in Walpole, MA is seeking a professional with background in special education to engage therapeutic class groupings of special education students between the ages of 12-18 primarily presenting with emotional impairments and performing at varying academic levels. How You'll Be Making a Difference Under the direction of the Principal and Special Education Administrator, the Health/Wellness Teacher will design and implement an appropriate curriculum for physical education and health that addresses the MA Curriculum Frameworks/Common Core Standards at Clifford Academy in Walpole, MA. Plan fun and engaging physical education/health programs to promote development of students' physical attributes and social skills. Collaborate with school nurse and clinical and school faculty to develop and implement wellness plans for students. Teach and/or oversee individual and team sports to students, utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and of physical capabilities of students. Coordinate Clifford's athletic program to include scheduling games and oversight of coaching staff. Assess student's performance levels, learning styles, strengths and weaknesses and develop appropriate goals and objectives. Measure and evaluate student progress. Confer with students, parents and school counselors to resolve student problems. Select, store, order, issue and inventory equipment, materials and supplies used in physical education/athletics program as required. Participate in the IEP process as required. Prepare weekly lesson plans and substitute lesson plans. Complete all paperwork including report cards and IEP goals and objectives as required and on time. Collaborate with members from the organization (including but not limited to nursing, food program, occupational therapy, etc.) to propose and/or support programs that promote a healthy lifestyle among our students. Qualifications Bachelor's degree and knowledge in field of designated assignment or subject (such as physical education, health, etc.) required. Massachusetts Educator Licensure required. Special Education certification highly desired. Previous experience working in education and/or with program specific population of children highly desirable. Computer literate including Microsoft Office with the ability to learn new software applications. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including a candidate's relevant experience, education, skills, and internal equity relative to other employees in similar roles. Candidates with less directly related experience may be placed toward the lower end of the range, while those with extensive or specialized experience may be placed toward the higher end. Market conditions and budget considerations may also influence final pay decisions.
