This position plans, organizes, and conducts physical therapy to facilitate development and rehabilitation for students to achieve success in the educational environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides therapy under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. Instructs, motivates, and assists students to learn and to enhance the students' ability to engage in school activities. Selects, sequences, and implements school physically-based interventions in collaboration with students, caregivers, and other professionals. Monitors students during treatment sessions in order to update, change, or terminate the intervention plan in collaboration with the Physical Therapist(s). Reports orally and through descriptive documentation to Physical Therapist(s). Confers with members of therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss and evaluate student information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs. Gives orientation to new Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (LPTA) and directs and gives instruction to aides. Supervises LPTA students during Fieldwork Studies from participating colleges and universities. Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, filing, and completing forms. Assumes any other duties as assigned by Physical Therapist, Lead Nurse or Assistant Superintendent for Student Services.

Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); graduate of an accredited physical therapy assistant program and/or licensure as a physical education assistant. b)

Certificate or License Required:

Valid State PTA license. c)

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. d)

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. e)

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. f)

Technical Ability:

Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Products. Familiarity with interoffice applications. g)

Customer Service Skills:

Must be able to interact effectively with colleagues, administrators, teachers, staff members, students using tactful yet effective skills.
