Job Description

Position:
Full-Time - Licensed Registered Nurse (LPN)
Schedule:
Primarily weekday hours (8am - 4:30pm) Rotation of weekends and on-call evenings Who are we? The James L. Maher Center is a non-profit organization that provides services to nearly 200 participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the East Bay Area and on Aquidneck Island. At this time, we are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team at the Maher Center. Duties will include care coordination; written documentation; in-service trainings; assisting in the development of systems to enhance quality nursing services as well as other duties. The position of the Registered Nurse requires a person with a valid license as a registered nurse in the State of Rhode Island . The individual must maintain current certifications in all areas of emergency techniques have knowledge of the philosophy, policies and programs of the Center, ability to recognize and identify symptoms and have a willingness to promote and participate in formal and informal programs of instruction for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities:
The nurses share the responsibilities to ensure efficient and effective delivery of patient care services through appropriate utilization of healthcare resources. All functions are carried out in accordance to the rules and regulations and in consideration of the aging processes, human development stages and patient choice in each step of the care process.
  • Provide appropriate nursing care for individuals with developmental disabilities served by the James L. Maher Center
  • Knowledge of care management and community resources in preferred
  • Administer emergency first aid or obtain same from nearest appropriate emergency medical facility
  • Design services according to program plans, instruct in health and hygiene skills, assess effectiveness and consult with other staff
  • Provide appropriate in-service training and consultation to the direct support staff as needed
  • Complete required written documentation including but not limited to Nursing Annuals, Nursing Notes, Medical Plans of Care, documentation of training, and maintain up to date medical records and forms
  • Actively participate in meetings including but not limited to ISP, Resource Team, and SIS meetings as needed
  • Adhere to BHDDH regulations
  • Adhere to wellness standards
  • Assist in the development of systems that will enhance the quality of nursing services provided by the James L. Maher Center
  • Prepare records and reports
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Must possess a nursing diploma (associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing)
  • Have general knowledge of Intermediate care facilities nursing policies and procedures
  • Ability to teach the application of techniques and practices
  • Knowledge of approved nursing and health practices and methods as well as skills in their application
  • Ability to make use of community resources
  • Initiative and good judgment in dealing with people
  • Ability to exercise tact
  • Applicant must pass a National Criminal Background check.
