Job Description

Position Description The Lifeguard:
  • is responsible for surveying the pool for safety and conducting rescues where needed.
  • speaks with swimmers to enforce swimming rules, keeps track of all swimmers in the water, and administers first aid when necessary.
  • opens and closes the pool each day (including performing opening and closing checks) and sticks to a predetermined schedule to allow consistency for families and communicates in advance when leave will be needed.
  • monitors weather reports, pool chemistry, and general environmental safety to ensure guests remain safe and the pool area remains clean.
  • oversees rentals and provides swim lessons in a way that prioritizes both safety and guest enjoyment.
The Lifeguard collaborates with and reports to the designated Pool Manager. Major Duties and Responsibilities 1. Manages daily opening tasks including checking pool chemistry, communicating issues with Pool Manager, surveying deck and water for hazards, checking and emptying pool skimmers, cleaning debris out of pool or off deck (as needed), and checking bathrooms for safety/cleanliness. 2. Supervises rentals and open swim periods during scheduled time. Lifeguard must remain in chair at all times when guests are in the water. Lifeguard will communicate with guests to ensure that all rules are followed and safety is prioritized, including ensuring that the pool and deck are never above capacity. 3. Teaches swim lessons as instructed by Pool Manager. Lessons are intended to help students feel comfortable in the water and at the pool regardless of their level of proficiency with swimming. This should be the top priority at all times. 4. Continues to visually sweep the environment throughout shift to ensure that there are no safety hazards present. Checks water chemistry and bathrooms at the halfway point of shift. Alerts Pool Manager of any problems that cannot be solved independently. 5. Administers first aid and CPR when necessary. Keeps a bag with basic first aid supplies on their person. Documents and reports all incidents and accidents to the Pool Manager. 6. Conducts swimming tests when needed to assess a swimmer's proficiency and readiness to utilize the pool, communicating results to Pool Manager. 7. Performs closing tasks including clearing guests from deck, taking out trash, checking and emptying pool skimmers, checking bathrooms, putting away all tools and gear, Qualifications of a Successful Candidate
  • Be a hard worker with a commitment to high standards
  • Have a positive attitude and ability to get along well with others
  • Demonstrate a high degree of responsibility and alertness, as well as strong communication skills
  • Possess (or express a willingness to get) current lifeguard certification and First Aid/CPR training
  • Successful completion of an in-water practical skills test
  • Have experience teaching swim lessons or otherwise working with children
Note:
Applicants who hold (or express a willingness and qualification to get) Pool Operator license will be prioritized
Pay:
$13.00 - $15.00 per hour
