Light Equipment Operator

JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction, operates light motorized equipment used in maintaining public rights of way and other city property; frequently participates in activities relating to street and drainage construction and maintenance operations; and does related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Primarily responsible for the operation of light equipment such as tractors with mower attachments, but frequently operates vehicles, such as dump trucks, water trucks, and pickup trucks, and equipment such as loaders, rollers, pavers, lawn mowers, and various other equipment; responsible for the cleaning and washing, preventive maintenance, and servicing of equipment to maintain equipment in good and safe working condition; makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; reads and understands written job instructions and plans; writes reports; uses sound judgment to work safely and use equipment properly; climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoops, and bends freely when driving or participating in street and drainage construction and maintenance operations; sits, stands, or walks for extended periods of time while driving or participating in street and drainage construction and maintenance operations; hears clearly when working around equipment and in traffic, using proper safety precautions; works outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature swings, and inclement weather; some exposure to dust, odor, fumes, and loud noises that are routinely encountered in street and drainage construction and maintenance operations, using proper safety precautions.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Communicates effectively and courteously with other employees and the public; subject to scheduled and unscheduled overtime; subject to after-hours and weekend call out for emergency and critical situations; safely operates hand tools, such as shovels, hand saws, skill saws, chain saws, drill press, vibrator, bolt cutters, picks, axes, air compressors, jackhammers, cutting torch, various weight hammers, and other various hand tools; lifts and carries up to 100 pounds; and pulls, pushes, or drags up to 150 pounds of street and drainage construction and maintenance equipment and while hooking up trailers and other equipment. Two years experience in street and drainage construction and maintenance operations, plus one year of training or experience in operating light motorized equipment, particularly tractors with mower attachments.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND LICENSE

High school graduate or equivalent; Texas Driver's License Class B-CDL, or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment; good driving record.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS

: Two years experience in street and drainage construction and maintenance operations, plus one year of training or experience in operating light motorized equipment, particularly tractors with mower attachments

Pay:

$18.06 - $24.39 per hour
