JOB SUMMARY
Siċaŋġu Food Sovereignty Initiative (Siċaŋġu FSI) is seeking a Local Food Distributions Manager to lead our efforts in creating access to local foods. This position will serve as the primary lead for the Siċaŋġu Harvest Markets, Relatives Feeding Relatives food distributions, and any other food distributions and institutional sales. About Siċaŋġu Co and the Siċaŋġu Community Development Corporation (Siċaŋġu CDC) Siċaŋġu Co is an indigenous ecosystem of interconnected organizations and initiatives dedicated to creating a healthier, more prosperous future for the Siċaŋġu Lakota Oyate. Anchored in Lakota values and guided by the principles of self-sufficiency and community empowerment, Siċaŋġu Co operates as a collective effort to strengthen the social, cultural, and economic well-being of the Rosebud Reservation. Together, the ecosystem leverages shared resources, expertise, and partnerships to create impactful, lasting change. Grounded in our ancestral and cultural wisdom, with a deep understanding of the profound challenges faced by our people, see Siċaŋġu Co is working towards Wicozani or "the good way of life" for the Siċaŋġu Oyate - holistic health, economic self-sufficiency, cultural revitalization, sustainable housing, food sovereignty, climate resilience, and shared lasting prosperity. Within the ecosystem lies Siċaŋġu Community Development Corporation (Siċaŋġu CDC), a nonprofit organization leading efforts to foster sustainable community development. Siċaŋġu CDC focuses on food sovereignty, education, housing, and health while working collaboratively with other Siċaŋġu Co entities to provide holistic support and opportunities for the community.
Essential Functions:
  • Leading the operations of the seasonal Siċaŋġu Harvest Market
  • Ordering supplies and equipment for the Siċaŋġu Harvest Markets
  • Maintaining and building relationships with Siċaŋġu Harvest Market vendors, customers, and institutional partners.
  • Identifying and building relationships with point people in new market opportunities
  • Working with the SFSI Community & Producer Support Manager to develop a process to purchase from SFSI Entrepreneurial program participants
  • Managing the Farm to School (F2S) process
  • Packaging, labeling, and delivering produce and other food products to customers
  • Data collection and record keeping for all Siċaŋġu FSI food distribution and access programs (including but not limited to, the Siċaŋġu Harvest Market, F2S, and Relatives Feeding Relatives participation)
  • Create and maintain the database to store this information
  • Assisting the Storytelling Team with the development of Siċaŋġu Harvest Market advertising materials
  • Share monthly progress updates with SFSI Director and writing the annual Siċaŋġu Harvest Market report
  • Preparing and submitting monthly tribal and state sales taxes
  • Leading procurement of local food purchases that will be distributed through Relatives Feeding Relatives
  • Direct local food sales with Wakanyeja Ki Tokeyahci and other local institutions
  • Creating and advertising Relatives Feeding Relatives distribution schedules
  • Leading Relatives Feeding Relatives community food distributions, coordinating individual bison requests
  • Assisting the Storytelling Team with the development of Relatives Feeding Relatives advertising materials
  • Assisting the SFSI Director in brainstorming and planning for food distributions after current Relatives Feeding Relatives funding ends
  • Submitting timely payments to vendors after sourcing local foods
  • Take calls from community for distributions, individual buffalo requests, concerns, etc
  • Occasionally leading volunteers and contracted help for food distributions
  • Participate in seasonal team work days in the Keya Wakpala Garden
  • Create, plan, and facilitate a minimum of one community-facing educational session or workshop, covering a topic that contributes to the Food Sovereignty Initiative's Mission Statement
  • Collaborate in the planning and participation of SFSI-only and cross-initiative activities that are both internal and community-facing Nothing in this position description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience in planning and facilitating community activities and events
  • Basic computer skills
  • Self-motivated and able to complete tasks independently, while able to work effectively in a team setting
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Able to create clear work-plans to meet deadlines
  • Possess problem solving skills and the ability to prioritize
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends on an as-needed basis
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation
High School Diploma or GED Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • 2-3 years in sales and customer service, and relationship-building with the community
  • 2-3 years experience in food handling
  • 2-3 years experience in managing farmers markets
  • 1-2 years experience with event coordination
  • 1-2 years experience recruiting, managing, and retaining employees and/or volunteers
  • Experience in tribal community outreach efforts
  • Experience tracking sales and filing business taxes
  • Preferred experience in mass food distributions
  • Proficient understanding of local food systems
  • Preferred experience in Microsoft 365,
