Position Overview This position is accountable for reviewing, evaluating, revising and taking appropriate action on Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) and Federal Aid (FA) projects primarily for all types of traffic control devices to ensure that such projects conform to existing policies, guidelines, and sound engineering principles. This position also oversees the duties as the Local Roads Bridge Coordinator in maintaining the database for bridge inspections, load postings and closures. Essential Functions Provides complete and detailed review of plan submittals by local agencies involving Motor Fuel Tax (MFT), state or federal participation, while coordinating with the Federal Aid (FA) Program Engineer or MFT Field Engineer. Reconciles differences regarding project features with local agencies. Ensures the application of appropriate design criteria to all types of traffic control devices on local arterial highways and streets. Interprets plan specifications, provisions, and agreements for local agency, consultant, and contractorpersonnel to assure the funding and maintenance requirements are in line with departmental guidelines in coordination with the FA Agreement Technician. Performs the duties of the Local Roads Bridge Coordinator. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS six years of engineering experience; OR eight years of engineering experience. Preferred Qualifications Strong oral and written communication skills. Conditions of Employment Requires a valid driver's license. Required district-wide travel. Requires successful completion of a background screening. Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.
