- Career advancement opportunities Job Summary The Locomotive Supervisor is responsible for maintenance, repairs, and availability of the locomotive fleet.
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the locomotive team
- The Locomotive Supervisor must teach, apply and monitor Federal Railroad Administration, State, Federal and company standards, rules and regulations
- Communicate and monitor performance goals, quality standards, KMIs and financial performance to ensure safety and efficiency
- Support training and developing team members with locomotive electrical and mechanical systems
- Guide and direct team members to technically troubleshoot locomotive failures, repairs, and service processes in person and over the phone
- Assist with the repair of locomotive component rebuilds, traction motor repair and/or replacement and air system troubleshooting and repair
- Read, analyze, and interpret locomotive downloads, blueprints, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
- Draft reports, repair estimates, business correspondence, and procedural instructions and effectively present information to managers, team members, and customers
- The Locomotive Supervisor will inspect, test, and maintain locomotives and locomotive components according to Federal regulations and compile records to comply with Federal and company standards, rules, and regulations
- Maintain a reliable inventory of parts and materials for the proper maintenance of locomotives
- Coordinate daily locomotive needs with the dispatcher and/or site leadership team
- Apply and teach knowledge of the proper use of various wear limit gauges and testing equipment
- Support investigations, emergency repairs, and re-railing of railroad rolling stock
- Interpret and delegate instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Demonstrate and teach the safe use of types of tools and equipment such as, but not limited to, welders, torches, hammers, jacks, and other types of other mechanical, air, and hand tools pertaining to the maintenance of rolling stock
- Assist in preparation and administration of performance appraisals within the locomotive department
- Support team member development to assure highly qualified successors are in place
- Work with internal and external customers to ensure a level of customer service consistent with company goals
- Read and accurately interpret company documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and federal and state regulations
- Respond promptly to all accidents, incidents, or emergency calls
- The Locomotive Supervisor will wssist with evaluating and documenting team member performance within the locomotive department, including training, disciplinary action, and terminations
- Conduct efficiency testing and monitor safe working practices in the field
- Assist with interviewing and hiring for open positions
- Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance
- Learn Chief Mechanical Officer responsibilities and fill vacancy as needed
