Job Description
The LPN provides residents with nursing services in accordance with physician's orders and needs for quality of care and life within the residence. The LPN is responsible for the administration of medications and treatment. The LPN works with and supervises the Resident Assistants/Personal Care Attendants on all Resident Care. Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Assists in maintaining a physical, social, and psychological environment which will be conducive to the best interests and welfare of the Residents. Supervises and directs Resident Assistants (RA)/ Personal Care Attendants (PCA). Exercises independent judgment and discretion in the performance of supervisory/ personnel task with the understanding that the responsibilities are not routine or limited to Resident care matters. Maintains a safe, clean, environment in the residence by delegating job responsibilities. Works closely with all departments and staff, sensitizing them to residents' health matters in general and specific health concerns to individual residents. Writes and/or follows the service plan with appropriate goals, problems, and revisions, based on Resident needs. Assists in the evaluation of the Resident's social needs. With other licensed staff, writes weekly/ monthly summaries as assigned, addressing specifically the problems individual residents. Orders and administers medication and treatments as prescribed by physician. Documents and reviews medication and treatment sheets for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of physician's orders, and in compliance with professional standards, federal and state regulation, and residence procedures. Monitors responses to existing treatment plans, aware of prominent medication interactions and side effects, monitors residents for occurrence of such and notifies Director of Resident Care. Adheres to residence infection control policies and procedures relevant to medication/ treatment administration. Counts controlled substances.. Secures controlled substances during tour of duty. Assures the cleanliness and organization of the medicine supply room and the security of discontinued medicine are in accordance with federal and state regulations, and the residence policies and procedures. Provides Resident/ families at the time of discharge with written and oral instructions relevant to medication/ treatment orders. Provides direct Resident care when needed. Assists Resident Assistants with direct care as needed. Follows procedure regarding incidents/ accidents to Residents/ visitors/ staff. Ability to effectively communicate in English and understand and follow written and oral instructions. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises Resident Assistants/Personal Care Attendants Qualifications Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or education to receive a LPN license. Previous experience working with older adults preferred. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond or questions from groups of managers, employees, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to effectively communicate in English. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
