Job Description

We are building an in-house Lycoming engine overhaul capability to support a high-utilization fleet of piston aircraft across charter and flight training operations. We are looking for a mechanic who doesn't just "work on engines," but knows how to tear down, evaluate, and rebuild them to a standard they would put their own name on . This role will start as the primary engine overhaul technician and is expected to evolve into a lead position as the operation grows. Compensation is $85,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on experience. Relocation assistance available.

Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off Stable, year-round workload (no seasonal slowdowns) Opportunity to build and lead an internal engine overhaul program Responsibilities Perform complete teardown, inspection, overhaul, and reassembly of Lycoming engines (TIO-540, O-360, etc.) Measure and evaluate all components against manufacturer tolerances and service limits Identify wear patterns, failure points, and long-term reliability risks Coordinate with machine shops and specialty vendors for crankshaft work, case repairs, and NDT Execute precise engine assembly including torque, clearances, and timing Conduct engine test runs and manage break-in procedures Complete all required logbook entries and maintenance documentation to FAA standards Track engine time, components, and overhaul cycles across multiple aircraft Assist in developing shop processes, tooling requirements, and quality control standards Support installation and troubleshooting as needed Requirements FAA A&P Certificate (IA preferred) 5+ years of piston aircraft maintenance experience Proven experience performing full Lycoming engine overhauls (not limited to top-end work) Strong understanding of Lycoming manuals, service bulletins, and overhaul procedures Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, etc.) Ability to independently determine part serviceability and airworthiness High attention to detail and strong documentation habits Preferred Experience Experience in Part 135 or high-cycle flight school environments Experience with IO-540 and turbocharged Lycoming variants Familiarity with engine test cells and break-in procedures Experience managing parts ordering, cores, and vendor relationships Prior leadership or shop setup experience What Sets This Role Apart You will be the go-to engine expert for a growing fleet Direct impact on reliability, cost control, and aircraft availability Opportunity to shape how the overhaul shop is built from the ground up Consistent volume of engines (not occasional overhaul work)
