Job Title:
Machine Builder - 1st shift Job Description This role focuses on building mechanical and electrical assemblies, sub-assemblies, panels, and components for automated equipment used in highly regulated industries such as medical device, aerospace, and nuclear. You will work on a clean, well-lit manufacturing floor and contribute directly to the production of precision equipment by assembling, testing, and troubleshooting complex systems using detailed prints, schematics, and bills of materials. Responsibilities Assemble machines, sub-assemblies, panels, and components by following detailed step-by-step instructions, both mechanically and electrically. Build complete machines and sub-assemblies from mechanical prints, diagrams, and blueprints. Perform mechanical assembly using hand tools and power tools to fit, align, and secure parts and components. Perform electrical assembly and wiring of components, panels, and sub-assemblies according to schematics and wiring diagrams. Use bills of materials (BOMs) and schematics to identify components, organize work by assembly, and detect potential issues before and during build. Conduct testing and troubleshooting of components and assemblies, including the use of volt meters to verify electrical performance and diagnose issues. Assist with or work under supervision during machine power-up, ensuring systems start safely and function as intended. Apply knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics while assembling and connecting related components in automated equipment. Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and diagrams to ensure accurate and precise builds. Collaborate with team members and leads to resolve build issues, improve processes, and maintain high-quality standards. Train and cross-train in other areas of the build process to expand skills and support overall team flexibility. Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow clean room or clean space protocols to protect sensitive equipment and assemblies. Essential Skills 2-3+ years of experience building machines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, or automated equipment. At least 1 year of experience working from mechanical and electrical schematics, prints, or diagrams. At least 1 year of experience troubleshooting and testing components and assemblies using volt meters. Proficiency in mechanical assembly, including building machines and sub-assemblies from prints. Ability to perform electrical assembly and wiring based on schematics and wiring diagrams. Strong blueprint and schematic reading skills for both mechanical and electrical documentation. Hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively in an assembly environment. Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics in the context of automated equipment building. Ability and willingness to train and learn in other areas to broaden skill sets and support different build tasks. Comfort working with automation-related equipment and components in a manufacturing setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in automation and robotics, power and fluid, or electronic technology is preferred. Experience with automation equipment, including automated packaging and assembly systems, is a plus. Experience as a mechanical assembler, machine builder, or similar role in a manufacturing or automation environment. Experience organizing work using bills of materials (BOMs) and assembly documentation. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, open-concept culture and communicate clearly with colleagues and leaders. Work Environment You will work in a clean room or clean space manufacturing environment where devices, assemblies, and sub-assemblies are built under controlled conditions. The standard shift is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with some flexibility to start up to an hour earlier or later as needed after training. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Shoreview, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr.
