Job Description

Summary The primary job function of a Machinist is operating CNC machines to produce precision metal parts. They may produce small batches or large quantities of parts, and ensure products meet precise specifications in a fast pace environment. Essential Functions
  • Operate machine tools such as lathes, and milling machines to produce parts in a variety of materials
  • Review blueprints or specifications for a job and create setup instructions.
  • Calculate where to cut or bore.
  • Determine the speed of tooling and speed the workpiece is fed into machine.
  • Determine how much material to remove.
  • Select tools and materials for the job.
  • Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
  • Mark the workpiece to show where cuts should be made.
  • Position workpiece on the lathe or milling machine.
  • Monitor and control feed rate and speed.
  • Ensure workpiece is properly lubricate and/or cooled.
  • Detect problems by observation and listening for specific sounds.
  • Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.
  • Monitor the accuracy of cuts.
  • Replace dull cutting tools.
  • Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications.
  • Produce large quantities of parts.
  • Determine how automated equipment will cut a part.
  • Determine cutting path.
  • Concert path, speed, and feed information into set of instructions for machine tool.
  • Use manual and computer-controlled machinery.
  • Write basic programs.
  • Modify programs in response to problems.
  • Perform other essential duties as directed by a supervisor.
Required Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must have strong organizational, communication and multitasking skills.
The qualifications may include:
  • Vocational school or apprenticeship preferred
  • Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders, etc.)
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g. micrometer & calipers) to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals.
  • Knowledge of metal properties and other material.
  • Outstanding mathematical skills and analytical abilities.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items. General Skill Requirements

  • Occasionally works and/or walks near moving mechanical equipment
  • Awareness and use of safety precautions such a safety glasses while on the production floor. Physical Demands
  • Required to sit at desk, stand, walk, use hands and arms to operate office equipment
  • Talk and hear
  • Perform motions including bending, twisting, pushing and pulling
  • Regularly required to lift, push or pull weight and/or carry objects.
Pay:
From $21.00 per hour
