Job Description

Job Title:
Machinist Job Description The Machinist works on 2nd shift within the Production department to program, set up, and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce high-quality parts to specification. This role uses shop computers, blueprints, and CNC programming skills to ensure precise fabrication, supports other machine and lathe operators as needed, and maintains a safe, organized work area in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Work under the direction of the Production Manager and 2nd Shift Lead within the Production department to complete assigned machining work. Receive and execute work delegated by the 2nd Shift Lead based on part complexity, specialty, and workload. Use the shop computer to record hours spent on work orders, scanning your badge to start and end your day and to begin and complete individual jobs. Review and thoroughly understand work orders by reading product blueprints and related technical information available on the shop computer. Program CNC machines and CNC lathes based on work order specifications, including setting up tooling, inputting coordinates, and adjusting machine settings for optimal performance. Provide programming and setup support to 2nd Shift Machine and Lathe Operators as needed. Operate CNC machines and/or CNC lathes to fabricate parts with precision according to engineering and quality requirements. Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto machines, ensuring proper alignment and secure setup. Perform test runs to verify that machines produce outputs that meet specifications and make adjustments as necessary. Inspect and monitor parts throughout the fabrication process to ensure they meet internal quality standards before releasing them to the next production step. Perform basic troubleshooting on CNC equipment, identifying issues with programs, tooling, or setup and making appropriate corrections. Maintain, organize, and clean equipment and the work area to ensure a safe and efficient production environment. Notify the 2nd Shift Lead promptly when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered. Adhere to all safety procedures, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment and safe operation of shop equipment. Perform other related duties as assigned to support production goals and team needs. Essential Skills Hands-on experience programming and operating CNC equipment, including CNC mills and CNC lathes. Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints and technical drawings. Proficiency in CNC programming and setup, including tooling selection, coordinate input, and parameter adjustment. Experience with CNC control platforms and machines such as Okuma, Mazak, and Hurco. Strong inspection skills, including the ability to monitor part quality throughout fabrication. Troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues related to machining processes, tooling, and equipment. Ability to perform manual machining operations when required. Comfort using shop computers to access work orders, blueprints, and to accurately record time on jobs. Ability to work safely around moving mechanical parts, loud noise, and industrial equipment. Capability to continually stand, frequently talk or hear, and utilize hand and finger dexterity throughout the shift. Ability to safely lift, push, and carry items up to and more than 50 pounds on a continual basis. Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel as needed to complete machining and maintenance tasks. Strong visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and use a shop computer effectively. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a manufacturing environment, particularly in a machine shop setting. Familiarity with inspection practices and quality standards in a production environment. Comfort working around fumes from substances such as mineral spirits and cleaning solutions. Ability to operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes or willingness to be trained. Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area. Effective communication skills to coordinate with shift leads, production management, and other machine operators. Flexibility to perform other related duties as assigned to support production needs. Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing environment on 2nd shift, working in close proximity to CNC mills, CNC lathes, and other production equipment. The work requires continual standing and frequent use of hands and fingers to operate machinery, handle parts, and use a shop computer. You will regularly work near moving mechanical parts and be frequently exposed to fumes from substances such as mineral spirits and cleaning solutions, as well as continual exposure to loud noises from machining operations such as squealing and boring. The position involves continually lifting, pushing, and carrying items up to and more than 50 pounds, along with occasional bending, stooping, and kneeling. You will use specialized equipment such as safety glasses, ear plugs, latex gloves, forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes to perform your duties safely. The environment is production-focused, fast-paced, and safety-oriented, with an emphasis on maintaining clean, organized workstations and following established procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marlboro, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $50.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
