Position Summary:
The employee working as a Machinist/Mold Maker constructs plastic injection molds to be used in the production of plastic parts. The Machinist/Mold Maker demonstrates solid mathematical and analytical reasoning skills, is adept in the use of manual machining and precision instruments, and is schooled in relevant computer technologies such as CNC machining.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Machines parts to specifications, using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
- Set-ups, adjusts and operates basic machine tools as well as specialized, advanced tools to perform precision machining operations.
- Using precision instruments (e.g., micrometers), measures, examines, and tests completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Sets controls to regulate machining; enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Uses knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Calculates dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
- Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.
- Selects the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of relevant mathematics such as arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
- Knowledge of the design techniques, tools, and principles, involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Ability to understand relevant technologies such as computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software and analytical software.
- Ability to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:- Walk and stand a minimum of 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week on concrete floors.
- Make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and whole body movement, such as lifting up to 45 lbs., balancing, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Talk; hear; see. Specific vision abilities required by this job include normal field of vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and color recognition.
- Wear steel-toed safety shoes and other personal protective equipment as required such as ear plugs and gloves.
