Teaching Full Job Description About Us:
We are a growing General Aviation maintenance facility located in the San Francisco Bay Area. We specialize in the maintenance, repair, and ongoing airworthiness of light piston aircraft, with a heavy volume of Cessna 172 fleet and owner-flown aircraft. We take pride in cultivating local aviation talent and are looking for a highly experienced, Bay Area-based Inspection Authorization (IA) holder to partner with our shop as an airworthiness auditor and team mentor on a flexible contract basis. Position Overview As a Contract IA, you will serve as our primary airworthiness auditor and final sign-off authority for Annual Inspections and FAA Form 337 Major Repairs/Alterations. You will leverage our internal team of Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) mechanics and Repairman certificate holders, who handle the heavy labor, opening, and cleaning. A critical component of this role is mentorship; you will guide our growing A&P mechanics through complex troubleshooting, AD research, and the finer details of Cessna 172 inspection techniques.
Key Responsibilities Annual Inspections:
Conduct final physical airworthiness inspections on Cessna 172 and light GA aircraft.
Mechanic Mentorship:
Provide professional guidance and technical coaching to our shop's A&P mechanics and Repairmen during teardown, troubleshooting, and repairs.
Logbook & AD Audits:
Perform thorough research of aircraft maintenance history and teach A&P mechanics how to properly verify complete AD compliance.
Regulatory Compliance:
Complete and sign logbook entries and FAA Form 337s for major repairs or alterations while demonstrating proper documentation standards to the team.
Quality Veto:
Exercise final authority to accept or reject any maintenance or repair work to ensure 100% regulatory compliance before signing off. Required Qualifications Valid FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings. Current, valid FAA Inspection Authorization (IA). Minimum of 5 years of experience inspecting General Aviation aircraft (Cessna 172 experience highly preferred). Strong communication skills and a distinct desire to teach, coach, and mentor growing A&P mechanics. Thorough, up-to-date knowledge of 14 CFR Part 43 and Part 91 regulations.
Pay:
$35.00 - $80.00 per hour
