JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to perform the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair and ground testing of assemblies, systems and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
This is an excepted position th requires membership in a compible military assignment in the Connecticut Army Nional Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Performs inspections, functional checks and preventive maintenance to include phase inspections, daily inspections, pre and post flight inspections and such special inspections. as required, including fuel and contaminion checks, oil sampling, and inspection of on board emergency equipment. Troubleshoots, diagnoses and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft. Conducts checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc. Removes components and assemblies, repairs or replaces defective parts and components and reassembles repaired items into the aircraft. Installs, aligns and makes needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc., assisting specialists as required.WORKING CONDITIONS
Works inside and outside, in inclement weher, on icy, wet and slippery ramps and work-stands in temperure and humidity extremes. Work areas may be drafty, noisy and have toxic fumes present. Irritants such as aircraft fluids, dirt, grease, dust, paint and solvents may be present. Exposure to cuts, burns, electrical shock, strains and broken bones exists.PHYSICAL EFFORT
Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds and over. Requirements Help Conditions of employment Incumbent is required to serve a 2-year trial/probionary period. Nional Guard Membership is required. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigion. Must meet Compible Military Assignment within one year from placement. Wear of the military uniform is mandory. Direct Deposit is mandory. Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. Must possess a valid ste drivers license. QualificionsGENERAL EXPERIENCE
Experience or training th has provided the candide with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specificions. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

Experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience th demonstres the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.WG-08 REQUIRES 12 MONTHS
Experience using common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modificions to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.WG-10 REQUIRES 18 MONTHS
Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modificion. Experience coordining the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Experience demonstring the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to do diversified work with tools and equipment, requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions. Knowledge of aircraft components and maintenance procedures. Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and determine remedy where overall knowledge of all systems of aircraft is required. Ability to inspect aircraft, determine mechanical deficiencies and analyze results. Ability to interpret instructional merial, schemics and specificions for complex mechanical problems on assigned aircraft.COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT

This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examinion prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. Training the Nional Guard Professional Educion Center (NGPEC) is a mandory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position.
