Duties Help As an Aircraft Mechanic , WG-8852-12 , you will: Perform inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections such as fuel contaminion, emergency equipment, and oil sampling. Inspect and perform functional checks such as landing gear retraction and operion checks on hydraulic, electrical, pressurizion, lubricion, de-icing, vacuum, induction, and exhaust systems. Troubleshoot and perform unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft, utilizing various gauges, meters, measuring devices and other reled test equipment. Remove and replace aircraft components such as control surfaces, engines, constant speed drive, engine mounted gear boxes, wing fuel tanks or cells, landing gear mechanisms, wheels, brakes and tires. Service oil, fluid, fuel, hydraulic, and oxygen systems. Adjust and maintain installed equipment such as tow targets, hydraulic reels, and drive assemblies. Perform user and organizional level maintenance on assigned support equipment, including inspection, repair, modificion, and corrosion prevention. Instruct, direct, and assign maintenance repair tasks to drill stus guard members. Complies with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulions. Prepare for and participe in various types of readiness evaluions such as MEI, ORI, IG and UE inspections, mobility and command support exercises. Perform other duties as assigned. This is an excepted service position th requires membership in a compible military assignment in the employing ste's Nional Guard, required prior to the effective de of placement. General Experience :
Must possess experience th has provided the candide with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specificions. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
Specialized Experience :
Candide must have 18 months specialized experience installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modificion. Experience coordining the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
Physical Effort:
Work assignments require modere to strenuous effort. The mechanic is required to climb, stoop, crawl, and stand for significant time periods. He/she is regularly required to lift parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds, occasionally lifting and carrying items to 50 pounds, with assistance as required.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in hanger areas, and on parking ramps, both inside and outside of the aircraft. Work areas are typically noisy. Work is carried out in weher extremes involving cold, wind, rain, snow, and he. Work is often carried out in confined spaces and awkward positions. Dirt, dust, grease, and aircraft fluids are a common problem. Hazardous gasses and fluids such as Hydrozine, jet fuel, solvents, Halon, and the like are prevalent. Scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces can become slick and dangerous, resulting in cuts, bruises, falls, and strains. Incumbents are subject to injury from numerous moving parts such as flight control surfaces, loosened components, etc. Workers are exposed to hot exhaust blast and intake suction. Ramps are active and noisy, with vehicles, aircraft and support equipment moving constantly.
