Job Description

Strix Aero is looking for an Aircraft Carburetor Mechanic for our carburetor shop. Our customers are vintage aircraft owners and museums. Strix Aero of the last few vintage aviation carburetor repair shops in the world. We are looking for a person who has a passion for vintage aviation and intrinsic motivation to understand through technical publications on complicated fuels systems for vintage planes. This position is full time in New Richmond WI. Candidate should have thorough knowledge of carburetors and fuel systems. This person is responsible for the meticulous overhaul, adjustment, and maintenance of aircraft fuel delivery systems to ensure engine reliability and safety.
Core Responsibilities Maintenance & Overhaul:
Disassemble, clean, and inspect carburetors for worn or damaged components, such as floats, needles, and jets. Examining parts for corrosion, wear, or cracks using precision instruments and sometimes non-destructive testing (NDT). Knowledge of diaphragm pressurized carburetors is a must.
Repair & Replacement:
Replace worn parts (e.g., throttle shafts, bushings, diaphragms, poppet valves, etc..) and reassemble carburetors, ensuring compliance with technical specifications.
Testing & Calibration:
Use test equipment to check fuel flow, adjust float levels, and verify proper mixture settings. Using a flow bench to do diagnostic tests to identify malfunctions, such as sticking valves or improper fuel flow and adjust accordingly.
Troubleshooting:
Diagnose engine and fuel system components malfunctions related to fuel delivery, such as improper idle or power loss and determine the extent of repair or overhaul needed.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate, detailed records of all maintenance and repairs in compliance with FAA regulations.
Required Skills & Qualifications Certification:
FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate is preferred but experience will also be a factor.
Technical Knowledge:
Deep understanding of aircraft reciprocating engine fuel systems and ability to read blueprints and technical manuals and apply them.
Precision and Detail:
High attention to detail for managing tight tolerances and ensuring safety.
Manual Dexterity:
Ability to work with small parts and specialized hand tools.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally 75 lbs. Typical Working Environment Work is conducted in specialized repair shops (overhaul shops) or in hangars. Frequent interaction with fuel, cleaning solvents, and testing equipment.
Pay:
$45,760.00 - $62,400.00 per year
