(FDU) designs, installs, and maintains advanced fire alarm and life safety systems for commercial and industrial buildings — and our service department is growing. We're hiring an experienced Fire Alarm Service Technician who can walk into any building, find the problem, and fix it right the first time. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role for a seasoned tech who can troubleshoot, repair, replace, and test fire alarm and life safety systems independently. What you'll do Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and replace fire alarm and life safety system components — panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and related equipment Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) in accordance with NFPA 72 and applicable local codes Respond to service calls and trouble conditions, including scheduled on-call emergency service Test and verify system operation after repairs and confirm devices report correctly to the panel Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, point-to-point wiring, and sequence-of-operation documents Document findings, work performed, and test results in clear, accurate service reports Interact professionally with customers, building staff, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) Maintain a stocked, organized service vehicle and keep tools and test equipment in good order Follow all FDU policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including confidentiality of system passcodes and programming What you bring Required — one of the following: current enrollment in the WBFAA (Western Burglar & Fire Alarm Association) Fire/Life Safety Technician Apprenticeship Program, a valid California State Fire/Life Safety Technician certification, or NICET Level II certification in Fire Alarm Systems 3+ years of hands-on fire alarm service experience (troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and testing) Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable California fire and electrical codes Ability to diagnose system faults at the panel and device level and carry the repair through to a verified fix Experience testing and servicing a range of manufacturer fire alarm panels and devices Ability to read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, and wiring schematics Strong customer-service skills and professional communication High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license and a clean driving record (company service vehicle provided) Ability to obtain security clearance and airport badging required for some of our job sites Nice to have NICET Level III or higher certification in Fire Alarm Systems Panel programming experience Low voltage or electrical certification OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification Physical requirements Lift up to 50 lbs regularly Work comfortably at heights, in tight spaces, and outdoors Stand, crouch, and climb ladders for extended periods Why FDU — our benefits Retirement plan with employer matching Medical, dental, and vision insurance Life insurance Flexible spending account Paid time off Tuition reimbursement and professional development assistance (including NICET certification support) Employee referral program How to apply Apply directly through Indeed, or email your resume to with the job title and where you found this posting in the subject line.
