Quincy, MA Make a Career. Not Just a Job. At Relay Fire & Safety, our mission is simple: make the world a safer place. We do that by delivering industry-leading fire and life safety solutions — and by investing in the people who make that possible. If you're mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and serious about becoming licensed in Massachusetts, we want to talk.IMPORTANT
Massachusetts Licensing Path This role is designed for individuals who intend to pursue and obtain their Massachusetts Class D Systems Technician License — not a Class B license. Relay will support and assist qualified candidates with schooling and licensing requirements as part of your career development plan. We are building licensed Systems Technicians — not electricians. Role Overview The Fire Alarm Apprentice works under the supervision of licensed Systems Technicians to assist with the inspection, installation, service, and troubleshooting of fire alarm systems throughout Massachusetts. This is a field-based position that combines technical learning, hands-on experience, and classroom education toward licensure. What You'll Be Doing Assist licensed technicians with annual, semi-annual, quarterly, and monthly fire alarm inspections Support installation and service of fire alarm systems Learn to troubleshoot low-voltage systems and devices Test equipment and systems after installation or repair Maintain accurate and detailed electronic inspection reports via tablet Communicate daily job progress and deficiencies to supervisors Follow NFPA standards and company quality procedures Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition Travel throughout Massachusetts to job sites You'll be paired with experienced licensed technicians who will mentor and guide your development. What We're Looking For Strong interest in developing a career in the fire alarm industry Willingness to enroll in required schooling toward obtaining a Massachusetts Class D Systems Technician License within one year Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools Ability to work with low-voltage wiring and related devices Team-oriented mindset Strong work ethic and willingness to learn Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Ability to pass background check and pre-employment screening NFPA knowledge is a plus — but not required for the right candidate. What Success Looks Like Within your first year, you will: Be actively enrolled in required licensing coursework Develop a strong understanding of NFPA standards Gain field competency assisting with inspections and service Progress toward your Class D licensure We are investing in long-term professionals. Why Join Relay? Mission-driven company focused on people Medical, dental, and vision coverage 401(k) with company match Paid time off and paid holidays Paid parental leave Financial assistance for required licensing education Real career advancement opportunities Relay has over 75 years of industry experience and continues to expand into new markets and technologies.
