Job Description
Fire Alarm TechnicianPosition Overview We are seeking a skilled Fire Alarm Technician to install, inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire alarm and detection systems across commercial and industrial properties. The ideal candidate will ensure systems are compliant with applicable codes and standards, respond to service calls quickly, and communicate clearly with customers and project teams to deliver reliable life-safety solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, wire, program, and commission fire alarm control panels, detectors, notification devices, and related system components according to plans and manufacturer specifications.
Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on fire alarm systems in compliance with NFPA 72 and local codes.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair system faults, signal issues, and component failures to restore system functionality.
Document service activities, test results, deficiencies, and corrective actions using company reporting tools and provide clear reports to clients.
Respond to service calls and emergency alarms, including after-hours and on-call rotations as required.
Coordinate with project managers, electricians, and general contractors to ensure timely completion of installation and service projects.
Provide customer training on system operation, testing procedures, and basic troubleshooting.
Maintain company vehicles, tools, and inventory of parts and report needs for resupply or equipment repairs.
Ensure work is performed in accordance with safety procedures, workplace policies, and applicable regulations.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED; technical training or apprenticeship in fire alarm systems or related field preferred.
Proven experience installing and servicing fire alarm systems, panels, and detection devices.
NICET certification (Level I or II preferred); willingness to obtain NICET certification if not already certified.
Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable local fire codes and standards.
Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and construction blueprints.
Proficient with fire alarm testing equipment and basic electrical troubleshooting tools.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to travel to multiple job sites.
Ability to lift moderate weight, work from ladders and lifts, and perform hands-on physical tasks safely.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency service requests.
