THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL
Sciens Building Solutions is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Systems Technician with programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting capabilities and experience. This position will work closely with our sales team, field project teams, and clients to ensure a sound design, and seamless installation and commissioning of our fire alarm solutions. This is a key position for our growing team and requires attention to detail in all aspects of executing projects. Customer and employee interface requires a high degree of effective human relations. Communication skills, both verbal and written, are important elements of the position.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
(and doing well!) Responsible for reviewing system layouts and coordinating with engineering, project management, and sales departments for successful project execution. Produce field surveys and daily project logs of activity. Program and commission complex fire alarm systems leading to final acceptance by customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). Produce detailed commissioning and inspection reports in accordance with NFPA. Responsible for complex troubleshooting and effective resolution. Deliver projects on schedule and within cost budgets. Program systems via laptop computers. Assist in the oversight of project inventory and responsible for vehicle inventory. Provide support, guidance, and expertise to the other technicians. Assist in managing job scheduling and job progress in an efficient and cost-effective manner, with a strong focus on quality. Demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units to customers and explain proper use and how to respond to any system signals. Comply with industry standard procedures and Sciens safety programs/policies.
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU
High school diploma or equivalent. Two to five (2-5) years of experience in a technician role within the fire-life safety industry. Ability to program and commission mid-range fire alarm systems independently. Ability to terminate fire alarm control units and field equipment with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate and coordinate with onsite contractors. Intermediate understanding of fire alarm circuit integrity and how to troubleshoot for circuit opens, shorts, or ground conditions. Intermediate computer knowledge related to the use and installation of software. Ability to demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units. Intermediate knowledge of NFPA 72 code requirements for the installation of a fire alarm system. Intermediate knowledge of Section 907 of the International Fire Code or state-adopted fire code. Intermediate knowledge of Section 909 of the International Building Code or state-adopted building code. Intermediate knowledge of Article 760 of NFPA 70 (electrical code) for the installation of fire systems and circuiting. State, local, contract, and/or product specific certifications determined by the business. NICET I certification Knowledge of state fire procedures, filing, and requirements. Ability to read fire system design drawings. Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency. Ability to work independently with some supervision. Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and able to obtain OSHA 10 certification. Proficient in issue resolution. Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills. Be physically fit to perform the demanding work of the trade, including frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, maximum occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; able to work from heights and climb ladders; standing and walking for most of the workday. Ability to travel occasionally overnight, as needed. Valid driver's license & reliable transportation.
