Job Description
Designer
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop detailed designs, layouts, and construction drawings for special hazard fire suppression systems (clean agent, CO2, foam, foam-water, dry chemical) and associated piping and enclosure details.
Design and size fire alarm systems, initiating devices, notification appliances, and notification circuits in accordance with NFPA 72 and project requirements.
Create and revise AutoCAD drawings and markups; maintain drawing standards and layering conventions.
Prepare system calculations, equipment schedules, material lists, and technical specifications for bid packages and installation.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, FM Global, local authority having jurisdiction) and client/project specifications.
Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, structural engineers, and general contractors to resolve system integration, routing, and installation issues.
Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to contractor RFIs, and perform field visits to support design intent verification and commissioning.
Support project managers with scope development, cost estimating, and project timelines; maintain accurate project documentation and change logs.
Participate in project meetings and client reviews; present technical rationale for design decisions and alternatives.
Assist in testing, commissioning, and turnover activities as required, including preparation of punch lists and closeout documentation.
QualificationsAssociate or Bachelors degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.3+ years of experience designing special hazard fire suppression systems and fire alarm systems for industrial, data center, or process facilities.
NICET certification in a relevant discipline is strongly preferred (NICET Special Hazard Extinguishing Systems, Water-Based, or Fire Alarm systems).Proficiency with AutoCAD is required; experience with Revit/BIM is a plus.
Strong knowledge of NFPA standards (including NFPA 13, 72, 2001, and other applicable standards), FM Global guidelines, and local code compliance.
Hands-on experience with special hazard suppression agents and system types (clean agents, CO2, foam, dry chemical) and associated hydraulics and calculations.
Experience with fire alarm system design, layout, and device selection (the request referenced firm alarms candidates should have proven experience in fire alarm systems).Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to client sites and field inspections as needed.
