Job Description

Position Summary:
The Fire Watch Technician is responsible for monitoring work areas where hot work or fire hazards are present to prevent fires and ensure the safety of personnel, property, and equipment. The Fire Watch individual maintains constant surveillance, identifies hazards, and responds quickly in emergency situations while complying with company policies and safety regulations. Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain continuous observation of areas where welding, cutting, grinding, or other hot work activities occur. Monitor for sparks, smoke, fire, and unsafe conditions. Ensure fire prevention equipment (fire extinguishers, hoses, alarms) is present and accessible. Stop work activities if unsafe conditions develop. Maintain communication with workers and supervisors regarding hazards. Conduct inspections before, during, and after hot work activities. Remain on-site during designated post-work monitoring periods (typically 30-60 minutes after hot work ends). Immediately report fires, injuries, safety incidents, or hazardous conditions. Understand emergency evacuation procedures and activate emergency response when needed. Complete logs, permits, and required documentation. Follow all OSHA requirements and company safety procedures. Assist with general safety tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Fire Watch or industrial safety experience preferred. Ability to recognize hazards and react quickly in emergency situations. Basic understanding of fire extinguisher use and emergency procedures. Strong communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and navigate industrial environments. Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions. Lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds as needed. Ability to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and respirators when required. Salary $15 - $16 per hour
