Fire Alarm Technician

As a Fire Alarm Technician at EPOSD, you will be responsible for inspecting, testing, servicing, repairing, and installing fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial buildings. This role requires technical knowledge of fire alarm panels, wiring, and system programming, along with strong communication and documentation skills. You will also be responsible for emergency call-out services, routine service work, and assisting with fire alarm installations.

Job Duties :

Fire Alarm Inspections & Testing Conduct routine fire alarm system inspections following NFPA 72, manufacturer guidelines, and local codes. Test smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, notification appliances, and control panels. Verify proper operation of monitoring systems and communication with central stations. Document inspection results and generate reports for submission to clients and internal records. Identify and report system deficiencies and recommend corrective actions. On-Call Emergency Response Respond to after-hours emergency service calls for system troubleshooting and repairs. Diagnose and resolve fire alarm system failures, including wiring, device, and panel issues. Provide clear communication with the client and EPOSD management regarding emergency repairs. Ensure temporary solutions are in place when necessary and schedule follow-up repairs. General Service Work & Repairs Perform troubleshooting and repair of faulty fire alarm systems and components. Replace or repair defective devices such as smoke detectors, horns, strobes, relays, and power supplies. Reprogram fire alarm panels to meet customer and regulatory requirements. Test repaired systems to ensure proper operation and compliance. Building & Programming Fire Alarm Panels Assemble, wire, and configure fire alarm control panels as per job specifications. Program fire alarm panels for new installations and modifications. Work with engineering teams to ensure proper system design and functionality. Shop Work & Equipment Preparation Assist in assembling and staging materials for upcoming projects. Maintain an organized workspace for tools, equipment, and spare parts. Perform equipment testing and quality checks before installation. Assisting with Fire Alarm Installations Support lead technicians and installers in fire alarm system installation. Run conduit, pull wire, and mount devices per installation plans. Terminate and label wiring connections. Assist in system programming and testing. Ensure installation compliance with local codes, NFPA standards, and project requirements. Administrative Responsibilities & Communication Check in at the shop at 8 AM with your immediate manager to review assignments. Keep your manager informed of any scope changes via email, text, or phone call. Fill out and submit daily reports, ensuring they are reviewed and signed. Complete a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before starting work on-site. Provide a briefing before leaving the shop and update your manager as needed. Inform your manager when arriving and leaving job sites to maintain clear communication. Maintain accurate documentation, including service logs, reports, and compliance records. Education & Certification High school diploma or GED (required) FAL License NICET Level I or II certification in Fire Alarm Systems (preferred, must obtain within 6 months if not certified) State or local fire alarm license (required within 90-day probation period) OSHA 10 certification OSHA 30 certification (preferred) Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Potter, Hochiki, Mircom, Notifier) (preferred but not required) Experience Minimum 2 years of experience in fire alarm installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, or inspection Working knowledge of NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm Code) and local fire codes Experience with wiring, conduit installation, and low-voltage troubleshooting Background in fire suppression or fire extinguisher servicing (preferred but not required) Skills & Abilities Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing system issues Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and documentation of daily work Proficiency in using hand and power tools relevant to fire alarm installations Comfortable working with low-voltage systems and control panels Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and heights Strong time management and organizational skills Bend Conduit Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry 50+ lbs. regularly Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and lifts Ability to work in commercial, industrial, and outdoor environments Other Requirements Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, clients, and inspectors Must be reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented Must be willing to travel in and out of state as needed

Pay:

$20.00 - $30.00 per hour
