Job description:
Mystic Powerboats is hiring for an experienced marine finisher who has a background in shaping, sanding, compound application, and the proper use of chemicals. Must have experience in buffing gelcoat along with a full understanding of fiberglass repair. Must have a strong eye for the details.
THIS POSTION WILL PROVIDE THE TOP PAY FOR THE RIGHT PERSON. MUST HAVE MULTIPLE YEARS OF EXPEREINCE. MUST BE LOOKING LONG TERM EMPLOYMENT AND CAREER ORIENTATED.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare surfaces by sanding, grinding, or cleaning fiberglass parts and boat hulls prior to gel coat application. Apply gel coat materials using spray guns or brush techniques, ensuring uniform coverage and desired thickness. Repair and touch up damaged or imperfect gel coat surfaces using appropriate tools and color-matching techniques. Buff and polish surfaces to achieve a high-gloss, professional finish. Identify surface defects such as pinholes, cracks, or delamination, and correct them using appropriate methods. Mix gel coat materials accurately, following manufacturer specifications. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area and ensure proper care of equipment. Follow all safety procedures and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE). Work collaboratively with other departments including lamination, molding, and quality assurance. Maintain detailed records of work performed and materials used.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required. 2+ years of experience in marine finishing, automotive bodywork, or fiberglass/gel coat application preferred. Familiarity with gel coat repair tools (grinders, buffers, spray guns, polishers). Strong attention to detail and excellent hand-eye coordination. Ability to color match and blend gel coat repairs. Basic knowledge of safety procedures and hazardous material handling. Physically capable of standing, bending, lifting, crouching, and working in confined spaces for extended periods. Ability to read and understand technical drawings and work orders. Ability to carry and lift 50lbs
Preferred Skills:
Experience working in a boat manufacturing or repair facility. Knowledge of different types of gel coats and resin systems. Certification in fiberglass or composite repair is a plus.
Pay:
$24.00 - $29.00 per hour
