Repairs vehicle electrical systems. Repairs vehicle body sheet metal, plastics, and paint. Performs front and rear alignments and wheel balance. Estimates time and material required to repair damaged vehicles/equipment. Confers with insurance companies regarding damage and settlements for vehicle repair. Maintains related paperwork. Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trade and theability to usethese toolsto perform repair work. Knowledge of all types of paints and materials and the ability to mix paint and paint vehicles/equipment. Knowledge of properties of metals and plastics and the ability to perform repair work on both. Knowledge of and skill and ability to perform gas and electric welding. Knowledge of paintless dent repair. May require the ability to climb onto equipment and make repairs as much as 25' in height. Ability to lift, climb, bend, and twist as necessary to remove, repair, or recondition and replace body, interior, suspension, and drive train parts, and glass. Ability to lift and carry bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds for distances up to 100 ft. Ability to read, interpret, and apply information contained in technical repair manuals. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and employees of other Departments. Attainment of a valid Kansas Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required within one year of hire Possession of at least one ASE certification in Trac B2, B3 or B6, plus attainment of at least two such certifications within one year of hire Compliance with ASE policy will be required at time of hire and throughout duration of employment. Eligible for up to $10,000 annual bonus for ASE certifications as outlined in the ASE policy. An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Public Works & Utilities is responsible for the operation of many critical systems, such as water and wastewater treatment, the City's transportation network, and more. Therefore, PW&U employees are the first responders in many emergency situations. When an emergency is declared by the Department Director, or designee, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response, or recovery activities related to the stated emergency Required Experience and Training Two years of experience performing skilled body repair, frame repair, wheel alignment and balancing, welding, painting, paintless dent repair, and estimating on all types of vehicles/equipment. OR Completion of an automotive trade school or formal collision repair training program, plus one (1) year of experience performing skilled body repair, frame repair, wheel alignment and balancing, welding, painting, paintless dent repair, and estimating on all types of vehicles/equipment. Must provide specified personal tools and a suitable container to ensure tool safety. Must possess one ASE certification in B2, B3, or B6 at hire and obtain two additional certifications within twelve (12) months. Ability to obtain a Kansas Class B CDL within twelve (12) months of hire. If you are a Canadian or Mexican citizen, you will be required to have or obtain a CDL from your home country. A valid Driver's License. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship. Preferred Experience and Training Two (2) years of experience performing skilled body repair, frame repair, front and rear wheel alignment and balancing, MIG/TIG or gas welding, automotive painting and refinishing, paintless dent repair, and written repair estimating on municipal or commercial fleet vehicles. Current possession of three (3) or more ASE certifications in B2, B3, and B6. A valid Class B CDL. Please note that this position is part of a random drug testing pool, and employees are subject to random drug testing in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
