Position Summary The Body Shop Buffer is responsible for supporting vehicle refinishing and repair operations by performing vehicle preparation, sanding, buffing, polishing, and light body repair work. This position plays an important role in ensuring vehicles meet factory-quality standards before delivery. The ideal candidate has experience with automotive body repair, refinishing processes, and detailing techniques, along with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork. Key Responsibilities Vehicle Preparation & Refinishing Prepare vehicles for refinishing through sanding, masking, taping, and detailing. Perform priming and surface preparation activities to support painting operations. Wet sand and buff refinished vehicles to restore factory-quality appearance. Remove imperfections from painted surfaces using appropriate sanding and polishing techniques. Operate high-speed buffers to eliminate sanding marks and achieve a professional finish. Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met. Automotive Repair Support Perform minor body repairs and light dent removal. Disassemble and reassemble vehicle components as needed during repair and refinishing processes. Correct factory defects, scratches, overspray, and other cosmetic imperfections. Assist with repair and restoration of vehicle processing center (VPC) units. Safety, Quality & Team Support Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Follow all company safety procedures and SDS requirements. Communicate professionally with coworkers, customers, carriers, and vendors. Assist team members as needed to support production goals and quality standards. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Required High School Diploma or GED Minimum 1 year of automotive body repair, refinishing, or painting experience Valid state-issued driver's license with acceptable driving record (MVR) Experience using sanding, buffing, polishing, and automotive body repair tools Ability to read, write, and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment General knowledge of automotive components and repair processes Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, and holidays when required Preferred 2+ years of automotive body repair and/or painting experience Experience driving both automatic and manual transmission vehicles Prior experience in an automotive manufacturing, dealership, collision repair, or vehicle processing environment Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching Repetitive use of hands for sanding, buffing, polishing, and detailing activities Ability to push and pull equipment and materials Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor temperatures Exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, paint materials, chemicals, and industrial noise Ability to drive vehicles safely throughout the facility Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
