In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining our fleet of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, and our regular fleet of work vehicles, ensuring optimal performance and safety. This position offers an opportunity to work with a variety of machinery, including railroad track machinery, air compressors, backhoes, other industrial equipment, and tractor-trailers. Some repairs will be in our shop, some will be on the jobsite. You will also be required to do short hauls (within the southeast) of equipment and materials to job sites. Responsibilities Perform diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, air brake systems, hydraulics, suspension systems, and other vehicle components using schematics and technical manuals. Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire service, brake repairs, shocks & struts replacement, wheel alignments, and fluid checks to ensure vehicles meet safety standards. Fabricate parts or modify equipment using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and soldering techniques to meet specific operational needs. Operate heavy machinery including excavators, backhoes, forklifts, and other railroad specific equipment safely and efficiently during repair or installation tasks. Troubleshoot electrical systems and perform automotive diagnostics to identify issues accurately for timely repairs. Maintain detailed service records of repairs performed, parts used, and inspections completed to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Assist in the assembly and disassembly of complex machinery or vehicle components as needed for repairs or upgrades. Requirements Proven mechanic experience with a strong background in diesel engine repair and automotive diagnostics. Valid CDL license with a clean driving record; experience operating tractor-trailers is highly preferred. Dealership experience or extensive background working with Caterpillar or similar heavy equipment is advantageous. Proficiency in reading schematics and technical manuals related to heavy machinery and industrial equipment. Skilled in fabrication techniques including welding, soldering, and the use of hand tools and power tools. Knowledge of hydraulics, air brake systems, suspension alignment, HVAC systems on vehicles/equipment. Ability to lift heavy components safely during maintenance tasks; strong mechanical knowledge across various machinery types including farm machinery and industrial equipment. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with team members and clients about repairs or maintenance needs. We value proactive problem-solving skills combined with a commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Must have valid CDL A, pass background check, and pass drug test.

$22.00 - $32.00 per hour
