SUMMARY:
The role of the auto mechanics teacher is to plan and provide instruction that affords the technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare students for post-secondary education and careers in the automotive industry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaches skills, knowledge and understanding by utilizing course guidelines aligned with Arkansas teaching/learning standards and other appropriate curriculum pacing guides in teaching individual course content. This may include alignment with university courses. Organizes and implements an instructional program aligned with academic standards for automotive students. Organizes and implements best practices for instructional/technical programs to enhance student learning and prepare students to be college, career and life ready. Designs career and/or technical education programs to enhance academic, career, and technical skills. Develops and uses ongoing assessments to monitor student progress, and make adjustments to curriculum and instruction where needed to enhance the learning process. Maintains all required records regarding student participation, inventory, and other CTE required documents for the Technical Assistance Visit (TAV). Actively participates in student youth organizations. Submits all appropriate reports for Career Education to the ACE (AR Dept of Career Ed) prior to all deadlines. Participates in the professional organization. Maintains all career education required certificates. Maintains an advisory committee. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Supervises students in and out-of-classroom during the assigned school day. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs including coordination/collaboration with local universities. Maintains professional competence through professional learning activities provided by the District, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities. Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE/EXPERIENCE
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and/or five (5) year's work experience in the field of automotive engineering. Minimum educational requirements/work experience shall be met prior to employment in the teaching specialty. Upon hiring, Qualified applicants must obtain licensure through the Arkansas Department of Education by applying for licensure and completing the following 4 courses on Arkansas IDEAS as a part of the application process: Suicide Awareness; Child Maltreatment; Parental Involvement; Dyslexia. Additionally, upon hire, qualified applicants will be expected to attend professional development required by the Arkansas Department of Career & Technical Education.
