Job Description

The Mechanic Shop Technician I is responsible for performing preventive maintenance services and light mechanical repairs on vehicles and trailers. This position plays a key role in supporting fleet reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance by conducting routine inspections, identifying maintenance needs, and ensuring vehicles remain in safe operating condition. This role serves as a entry-level and/or lube technician position. Key Job Responsibilities Perform basic preventive maintenance (oil changes, inspections, lubrications, tire service, etc.). Assist with repairs of brakes, electrical systems and hydraulics under supervision. Inspect vehicles and report issues or potential hazards. Maintain clean, organized workspaces and tool areas. Conduct company-required 90-Day and Annual Vehicle Inspections, in accordance with company standards. Identify and document defects, deficiencies and recommend repairs. Complete inspections reports accurately and timely. Verify that vehicles meet company safety requirements prior to being returned to service. Follow all company safety rules and procedures. Performance Measures Performance will be evaluated through the following:
Audit Reviews:
Evaluates initiative and responsiveness to compliance recordkeeping and documentation.
Annual Review:
Evaluates overall performance, goal achievement and compliance outcomes.
Personal Action Forms:
Used to document performance improvements, disciplinary actions or promotions.
Feedback:
Input from mechanics, drivers, supervisors and Division/Corporate staff on coordination efficiency and communication quality. Prerequisites for Role High school diploma or equivalent (required); Coursework or certificate in Automotive Technology or related field preferred but not required. 0-2 years of experience in a mechanic shop, fleet environment or related hands-on mechanical role. Basic familiarity with preventive maintenance concepts (oil changes, inspections, lubrications, tire service, etc.) General awareness of fleet maintenance operations and service intervals; DVIR exposure preferred but not required. Ability to learn and use maintenance tracking software (e.g. Equipment360 or similar). Prior experience preferred but not required. Basic organizational skills with the ability to follow work orders, schedules and safety procedures. Good verbal communication skills and willingness to ask questions and learn from senior technicians. Basic mechanical aptitude, including common tool knowledge and introductory parts identifications. Valid driver's license (required).
Pay:
$22.00 - $32.00 per hour
