The equipment maintenance technician will make safe and timely repairs as well as preventative maintenance to ensure functional operation of all the farm equipment. A successful technician can diagnose problems and has the mechanical knowledge to solve them using safe, cost effective, and efficient methods.
Responsibilities:
Conduct transmission, differential and driveline repairs on both manual and automatic transmission vehicles, prepared to perform in-depth repairs on semi-tractors, forklifts, UTVs, harvesting equipment and farm tractors. Perform clutch, carburetor, alternator and gearbox repairs and adjustments. Repair and maintain brake systems for both hydraulic and air brakes systems. Weld and fabricate, as needed. Perform equipment evaluation with preventive maintenance in mind. Become proficient in the use of specialized tools, such as electrical testing equipment, diagnostic computers and others (e.g., drill press milling machine, bandsaw). Champion safety culture by becoming familiar with all safety devices and emergency shutdown procedures including lockout-tag out procedures, MSDS sheets, pesticide labels and application notification procedures. Attend and actively participate in regular safety meetings and trainings. Service farm equipment (oil, lube, filters, water, etc.), fuel field equipment, and maintain fuel inventory, parts inventory, and service records for all equipment. Assist with farm duties such as spraying, mowing, irrigating, grading, harvesting etc. Perform repair of all power equipment in field as needed (tires, alternators, hydraulics, etc.). Perform in-shop repair of power units and other equipment, as required.
Qualifications:
Basic mechanical aptitude with some applicable training or experience. Ability to operate or be trained to operate a variety of farm equipment. Strong communication skills. Ability to work overtime, nights, Saturdays as required. Able to meet the physical requirements of the role such as heavy lifting, bending, kneeling, stepping up/down twisting, grasping throughout work shift.
