Job Description
Are you a motivated student with an interest in vehicle maintenance, fleet operations, or logistics? Join our team as a Student Intern Trainee (must be a registered student) and gain hands-on experience in the dynamic field of fleet services. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to real-world projects, and develop practical skills that will support your career growth. We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Student Intern Trainee to join our Fleet Services team. This internship program is to train incumbents in basic automotive service skills, including but not limited to: (Not in order of importance.) Inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical defects in automobiles, trucks, and miscellaneous equipment Performing minor repairs on tractors and dump trucks Performing general overhauls Doing major and minor engine tune-ups Repairing transmissions, differentials, mechanical and electrical fuel systems, electrical systems, and components, brake systems, and wheel alignments Installing tires, wiring, and door glass Installing emergency equipment on law enforcement vehicles Operating diagnostic equipment and evaluate readings Maintaining records of repairs made, work orders and time worked Cleaning and care for tools and equipment Operate and road test vehicles May repair mowers, riding mowers, and other equipment May be assigned to perform minor repair work on County owned fuel sites May be assigned administrative duties as needed May transport vehicles to and from vendors for various repairs Work hours are flexible to student's schedule. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of: t he operating principles of automotive and related equipment; the techniques and methods of overhauling and repairing automobiles, trucks, and equipment; the materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of automobiles and trucks. The ideal candidate will have the ability to: u nderstand and follow oral instruction; read and understand service and repair manuals and diagrams; overhaul automotive equipment; do arc and gas welding; work cooperatively with others; work in a safe and efficient manner; input and retrieve information from a PC. Person appointed to temporary employment with the County in a training position which compliments their ongoing education as a regularly enrolled student in an accredited school, who have recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program and who are working to complete related licensure or certification requirements, or as a participant in a supervised training program to meet licensure requirements of the State of California. "Regularly enrolled" shall mean that the student is both currently enrolled and intends to continue that enrollment in the next regularly scheduled term.
