Automotive Technician / Performance & Swap Specialist Full-Time | In-Person Kent, CT (21 Bridge Street) About
MOTORIOT MOTORIOT
is a dynamic and growing automotive shop specializing in the restoration, modification, and maintenance of classic vehicles — with a strong focus on vintage Land Rovers, Toyota Land Cruisers, Ford Broncos, and sports cars from the 1960s through the 1990s. We also work extensively on diesel-powered classics , including Land Rover Santanas and other vintage diesel 4x4s, as well as modernized restomods featuring drivetrain upgrades, electronic fuel injection, and engine swaps (primarily LS-based platforms). Our work blends old-world craftsmanship with modern performance, reliability, and engineering. The Role We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented Automotive Technician with strong performance and fabrication instincts — someone who can confidently handle engine swaps, tuning, wiring, and ECU programming , while still respecting the nuances of vintage vehicles. This role is ideal for a technician who enjoys solving complex mechanical and electrical problems, takes pride in clean, organized work, and can move projects forward efficiently without cutting corners. If you live and breathe classic vehicles, understand carburetors and modern engine management, and are comfortable tuning, wiring, and driving manual transmissions — we want to hear from you. What You'll Do Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on vintage gasoline and diesel vehicles Perform engine swaps (primarily LS-based) including mechanical fitment, plumbing, cooling, fuel, and accessory integration Handle wiring harness integration, troubleshooting, and clean routing Program and configure ECUs, standalone systems, and factory engine management Tune engines for drivability, reliability, and performance (as applicable) Perform routine maintenance, safety inspections, and road testing with precision Work efficiently from repair orders using ShopMonkey (our shop management platform) Communicate clearly with the parts department to source correct components Document all work performed thoroughly and accurately in ShopMonkey Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment Follow shop policies and safety regulations, including hazardous waste procedures Supervise and mentor apprentice technicians if assigned Contribute positively to a collaborative, professional shop culture Requirements Proven experience working on classic vehicles (1960s-1990s) Strong experience with engine swaps , especially GM LS platforms Solid understanding of engine management systems, ECU programming, and wiring Familiarity with diesel engines , especially vintage Land Rover Santanas or similar 4x4s Excellent mechanical aptitude, diagnostic ability, and attention to detail Highly organized and efficient in both hands-on work and documentation Comfortable working with both carbureted and fuel-injected systems Ability to confidently drive manual (stick shift) vehicles Valid driver's license and clean driving record Comfortable using ShopMonkey or willing to learn quickly Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset Reliable transportation or willingness to relocate prior to start date Drug testing conducted only as needed within the business (we do not screen for marijuana) Bonus Points For Deep passion for vintage 4x4s and classic sports cars Experience with fabrication, custom mounts, exhaust, or chassis modification Experience with standalone ECUs (Holley, Haltech, etc.) Ability to adapt across multiple makes, models, and eras Prior restomod or high-end custom build experienceJob Type Full-Time Work Location:
