Job Description

Position Summary The Production Shop Helper supports installers, mechanics, and technicians in performing Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI), accessory installations, vehicle inspections, and basic mechanical services. This position assists with identifying, repairing, replacing, and adjusting vehicle components while ensuring vehicles meet manufacturer specifications and company quality standards. Responsibilities also include battery service, tire changes, vehicle movement throughout the lot and staging areas, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment. Essential Functions Assist installers, mechanics, and technicians with identifying, repairing, replacing, and adjusting vehicle components and accessories. Retrieve parts, tools, and equipment from inventory or work areas as needed. Drive vehicles to and from staging areas and throughout the lot in a safe manner. Operate vehicle accessories and features, including: Air conditioning and heating systems Windows and sunroofs Interior and exterior controls Inspect vehicles to ensure accessories and components are functioning according to manufacturer specifications. Check, charge, replace, and maintain vehicle batteries according to manufacturer guidelines. Change tires and assist with basic vehicle maintenance functions. Assist in inspecting engines for abnormal idle quality, noises, odors, or other operational concerns. Examine vehicles for damage or deficiencies involving: Painted surfaces Exterior moldings and trim Door guards Protective coverings and interior materials Follow all vehicle movement safety procedures, including use of a spotter when backing vehicles. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma or GED preferred. Valid driver's license required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Must provide a 3-year Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) report with: No more than two (2) moving violations No DUI convictions No reckless driving convictions Must successfully pass required drug screenings in accordance with company policy. Ability to safely operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic automotive knowledge required. General understanding of automobile systems and components preferred. Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers and supervisors. Ability to accurately record and verify 17-character VIN numbers. Reliable transportation to and from work required. Ability to work assigned schedules, including overtime and weekends as needed. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods of time. Ability to open vehicle hoods, hatchbacks, and doors repeatedly throughout the shift. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Ability to use hands and arms to handle tools, controls, and vehicle components. Ability to perform close visual inspections. Working Conditions Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, humidity, and insects. Frequent work near moving mechanical parts and operating vehicles. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and automotive-related odors. Work environment may involve loud noise levels.
