Purpose Statement:

The job of Mechanic Technician is done for the purpose/s of maintaining and ensuring the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition. This includes determining needed repairs and/or replacement of parts on district vehicles; performing required repairs and preventive maintenance, providing written documentation of repairs, all performed to meet district, state, and federal requirements. Essential Functions Cleans the exterior of assigned vehicles, for the purpose of maintaining appearance, sanitation and safety of vehicle. Diagnoses potential vehicle malfunctions to determine needed vehicle repairs, and/or parts replacement. Conducts Inspections of assigned vehicles (e.g. brake system, oil levels, coolant, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that the vehicle is in a safe operating condition. Maintains records of repairs, costs, vehicle warranties, etc. for the purpose of documenting required information to meet federal and state requirements. Maintains tools, equipment and/or shop area for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required tools and equipment within a safe work area. Performs minor interior body work (e.g. upholstery, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the appearance and safe operation of the vehicles. Performs preventive vehicle maintenance programs for the purpose of maintaining vehicles in a safe operating condition. Repairs vehicle systems/components, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition. Replaces defective vehicle parts/systems (e.g. heating, electrical, tires, pumps, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring theavailability of vehicles in a safe operating condition. Responds to road calls regarding disabled vehicles for the purpose of performing emergency repair work in the field. Requirements Must pass an annual DOT bus driver physical Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) for past 7 years Must earn and maintain a Class B CDL driver's license with a Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement Must have a clear Federal Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse report Must be willing to drive bus routes during times of driver shortages Must provide own hand tools with the exception of shop provided specialty tools and diagnostic equipment Additional Information Subject to random drug and alcohol screenings Pre-employment background check and fingerprinting Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school bus maintenance shop. This is a 12 month position. 229 Days This position reports to the Director of Transportation.
