Job Description

Duluth International Auto Service -
Duluth, GA Compensation:
$70,000 (base/guarantee), plus productivity earnings. Duluth International Auto Service is looking for an experienced automotive technician who enjoys solving difficult problems, mentoring younger technicians, and working on a wide variety of vehicles. We are not a dealership. We are not a tire store. And we're not looking for someone who simply wants to chase flat-rate hours all day. Our shop performs the maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and drivability work that keeps modern vehicles on the road. We service a healthy mix of American, Asian, and European vehicles and have built our reputation on honesty, quality workmanship, and strong diagnostic capabilities. In addition to our day-to-day repair business, we also service a variety of classic and collector vehicles. These projects provide variety, interesting technical challenges, and opportunities to apply both modern and old-school diagnostic skills. One day you may be diagnosing a complex electrical or drivability issue on a modern vehicle. The next day you may be troubleshooting a carbureted engine, diagnosing a vintage ignition system, or helping a younger technician work through a challenging repair. We're looking for someone who enjoys that variety. This role is ideal for an experienced technician who wants to continue turning wrenches while also serving as a diagnostic resource, technical leader, and mentor for the rest of the team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Diagnose and repair complex drivability, electrical, and mechanical concerns Perform maintenance and repair work on a wide variety of vehicles Assist and mentor developing technicians Help maintain shop organization, workflow, and technical standards Perform quality inspections and assist with difficult diagnostic challenges Work on occasional classic and collector vehicle projects Help maintain a professional, clean, and efficient shop environment Serve as a trusted technical resource for the team
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
20+ years of professional automotive repair experience preferred Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills Experience using scan tools, live data, wiring diagrams, and electrical testing equipment Ability to diagnose problems rather than simply replace parts Solid mechanical repair skills across a broad range of vehicle systems Knowledge of older vehicle systems including carburetors, ignition systems, and mechanical diagnostics is a plus Leadership and mentoring mindset Professional attitude and strong work ethic ASE certifications are appreciated, but real-world experience matters most
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Guarantee / Salary Productivity-based incentive program with significant earning potential Consistent workflow and strong customer base Modern diagnostic equipment and shop resources Supportive team environment Opportunity to help shape and mentor the next generation of technicians Flexible consideration for highly experienced candidates
SCHEDULE
Typical schedule consists of five 8-hour workdays per week Shop hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Rotating schedules may include occasional Saturdays, typically no more than one Saturday per month Additional scheduling flexibility may be available for the right candidate
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT
Technician must provide professional hand tools and basic diagnostic equipment Shop provides specialty tools, scan tools, lifts, alignment equipment, and other major shop equipment Continued investment in tools and equipment to support efficient diagnostics and repairs
WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT
We believe experience matters. Some of the best technicians in the industry have spent decades learning what cannot be taught in a classroom or found in a scan tool. The ideal candidate is comfortable with scan tools, live data, network diagnostics, and modern vehicle systems, but also understands carburetors, ignition systems, mechanical troubleshooting, and the fundamentals that built this industry. We are looking for someone who still enjoys turning wrenches, solving difficult problems, and helping others develop their skills. Whether you're a seasoned master technician, a diagnostic specialist looking for a leadership opportunity, or an experienced technician who wants to work in an environment where your knowledge is respected, we'd welcome a conversation. If you take pride in your craft, enjoy variety, and want to be part of a shop that values both technical ability and professional character, we'd love to hear from you.
