Job Description

Overview We are seeking a skilled and experienced Trailer Mechanic to join our maintenance team. We have a fleet of over 600 dry vans and reefers. This position will be performing repairs and militance on the trailers as well as customers equipment. We work on brakes, tires, panels, landing gears, reefer units, bumpers and other equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience with trailers and other vehicle systems. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where safety, precision, and technical expertise are paramount. The Trailer Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting trailers and related equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety standards. Responsibilities Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on trailers, tractor-trailers, and heavy equipment. Diagnose mechanical issues using schematics, diagnostic tools, and automotive diagnostics techniques. Repair or replace components such as transmissions, air brakes, hydraulics, suspension systems, shocks & struts, HVAC systems, and diesel engines. Conduct welding, fabrication, and assembly tasks as needed for repairs or modifications. Operate heavy equipment including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and other industrial machinery safely and efficiently. Use hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, and other specialized tools for repairs and maintenance. Read and interpret schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical problems. Ensure all repairs meet safety standards and comply with industry regulations. Maintain detailed records of work performed and parts used in service logs. Assist with tire service, wheel alignment, brake repair, HVAC servicing, and other vehicle maintenance tasks as required. Skills Proven experience as a trailer mechanic or automotive service technician with dealership experience preferred. Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment operation including excavators, cranes, forklifts, farm machinery, industrial equipment, and tractor-trailers. Expertise in automotive diagnostics, transmissions, air brake systems, hydraulics, suspension systems, HVAC systems, diesel engine repair, shocks & struts, brake repair, wheel alignment, welding & fabrication skills. Ability to read schematics accurately for troubleshooting complex issues. Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in vehicle maintenance and repair. Experience with electrical systems repair including soldering skills is a plus. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work in various environmental conditions. Excellent problem-solving skills combined with strong customer service orientation. Knowledge of safety procedures related to heavy equipment operation and vehicle repair is essential. This position requires a dedicated professional capable of performing detailed repairs while maintaining high safety standards. Candidates should bring a strong work ethic along with the technical expertise necessary to excel in this role.
