Mechanic / Grease Technician Job Description This role focuses on the proper lubrication and basic mechanical care of operating equipment in a manufacturing environment. You will work with a wide range of industrial machinery, applying lubricants and greases according to detailed plans to help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations. Responsibilities Perform proper lubrication of all operating equipment on various production lines in accordance with established procedures and schedules. Read, understand, and follow all written lubrication preplans to determine the correct lubricant, quantity, and application method for each lube point. Use manual and automatic grease guns to lubricate bearings, motors, cylinders, couplings, and other mechanical components as required. Operate grease pumps (drum or keg) and related lubrication equipment safely and efficiently to perform lubrication tasks. Meet all qualifications and job duties defined in the Chemical Service Technician Job Classification (D3), including adherence to safety, quality, and housekeeping standards. Communicate clearly and professionally with plant operations and maintenance personnel to report equipment issues, abnormal conditions, or potential failures. Perform basic troubleshooting of mechanical issues related to lubrication, and escalate more complex problems to maintenance teams as needed. Follow preventive maintenance practices to help reduce equipment wear, unplanned downtime, and lubrication-related failures. Interpret basic mechanical and electrical information, including schematics or blueprints, when necessary to locate lube points or understand equipment layout. Support safe work practices at all times, including awareness of moving mechanical parts, electrical risks, and potential trip or slip hazards. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of lubricants and related materials. Interact professionally with customer personnel on-site, asking questions when needed and representing the company in a presentable and courteous manner. Essential Skills High school diploma or GED. Ability to meet all qualifications and job duties as defined in the Chemical Service Technician Job Classification (D3). Basic understanding of mechanical equipment in an industrial setting, including bearings, motors, pumps, cylinders, couplings, and similar components. Some mechanical experience or mechanical aptitude. Ability to read and follow written lubrication preplans and work instructions. Ability to use manual and automatic grease guns to lubricate various lube points. Ability to operate grease pumps (drum or keg) safely and effectively. Capability to travel long distances on foot within a large facility and to climb up and down stairs frequently. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly as needed. Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical and lubrication-related issues. Strong communication skills to interact with operations and maintenance teams and to report issues clearly. Comfort working in a loud manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and industrial chemicals. Professional and presentable demeanor, with the confidence to ask questions and engage with customer personnel on-site. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience or exposure to mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in an industrial or heavy equipment environment. Experience with preventive maintenance activities on industrial equipment. Familiarity with maintenance technician duties such as repair, troubleshooting, and basic mechanical service. Experience with diesel engines, transmissions, and heavy equipment maintenance. Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and basic mechanical drawings. Exposure to welding and fabrication practices in an industrial setting. Experience with brake systems and engine components in a mechanical environment. Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting and basic electrical diagnostics. General mechanically inclined mindset with strong problem-solving abilities. Experience working with industrial lubricants, greases, and lubrication systems. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site role in a manufacturing facility with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (with the first day starting at 8:00 a.m.). There is no weekend work. You will work around operating production lines and industrial equipment and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, as well as toxic or caustic chemicals associated with industrial cleaners, coatings, oils, and lubricants. The environment includes moving mechanical parts, potential risk of electrical shock, and trip or slip hazards, so adherence to safety procedures and use of appropriate personal protective equipment is essential. The noise level is loud and consistent with heavy manufacturing operations. You will use manual and automatic grease guns, grease pumps (drum or keg), and other basic maintenance tools while navigating large areas on foot and climbing stairs frequently. Because you will be working on-site at a customer location, you must present yourself in a neat, professional manner and communicate clearly and confidently with customer personnel. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Cedar Falls, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
