Cedar Rapids - Why you should live here! About this Opportunity Provides basic preventative maintenance and servicing to City Vehicles and equipment. This position supports mechanics by performing varying degrees of preventative maintenance and shop tasks. The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization. Job Duties and Responsibilities Performs routine fluid and filter changes on assigned equipment Checks and tops off equipment fluids (coolant, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid, etc.) Inspects and inflates tires to proper pressure; may rotate tires as needed Greases fittings and lubricates moving parts May assist Mechanics with basic mechanical repairs and shop tasks under supervision Maintains a clean and organized work area and follows shop safety practices Completes through vehicle service checklist and basic work order documentation on assigned unit Attends work regularly at the designated time and location Adheres to all City policies, procedures, and safety protocols Participates in training opportunities to improve skills and knowledge Performs related duties as assigned Required Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED Six (6) months of basic automotive or mechanical experience Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to communicate effectively (writing & verbal) Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations Required Licenses or Certifications Valid Driver's License Must obtain a Commercial Class B (CDL) with air brake endorsements and valid Medical Examiners Certificate within one year of hire AC EPA Section 609 Certification, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire Work Schedule Monday-Friday 3:00pm-11:00pm Hourly Rate The Automotive Equipment Lube Technician is covered under the AFSCME Bargaining Union, and all new hires begin employment at $25.62 per hour, regardless of years of experience. Employees in this classification receive a step increase on their anniversary. The steps effective 7/1/2025 include: New Hire 1 year 2 years 3 years $25.62 $28.36 $29.96 $31.58 •Shift differential for 2nd shift: $0.30/hour
