Job Description

Under basic supervision, the Vehicle Safety Technician is responsible for supporting emergency medical services operations by ensuring ambulances and related vehicles are properly maintained, equipped, and ready for street duty. This position performs routine inspections, minor maintenance, vehicle and quarters cleanliness, and supply stocking. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following : Ensure all vehicles, both active and inactive, meet established criteria for street readiness and duty status. Performs minor maintenance on ambulances and equipment , tags ambulance compartments, and stocks equipment and supplies necessary for the operation of emergency medical services. Maintains vehicle cleanliness and retrieves, replaces, or restocks items associated with emergency medical services operations. Completes audits and inventories of supplies and equipment. Maintains accurate and detailed records and filing systems, verify accuracy of information, research discrepancies, and records information. Verifies and reviews forms and reports for completeness and conformance with established regulations and procedures. Prepares, scans, copies, and distributes a variety of files and documents; ensures proper filing of documents in departmental or central files. Answers, screens, and redirects incoming calls; assists and directs visitors to appropriate locations or staff; responds to customer concerns and requests for information. Ensure assigned quarters are maintained in a clean, organized, and orderly manner. Complies with and always follows the Department's established infection control plan . Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor or other members of the management staff. Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Knowledge of:
General office policies, procedures, and equipment. Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette. Records maintenance and retention practices and procedures. Time management methods.
Skill in:
Typing and entering data with speed and accuracy. Using a multi-line phone system. Organizing and completing multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines. Operating a computer includes standard software and some specialized software. Interacting tactfully and professionally with County staff, outside agencies, and the public. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships. Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Working effectively both independently and as part of a team. Maintaining and handling confidential and sensitive information.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Current valid Iowa or Illinois Class C driver's license. Current valid BCLS Healthcare Provider certification or obtain one upon hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
While performing the essential duties of this position, the Vehicle Safety Technician is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; and to use hands, fingers, and arms to handle, reach, and operate office equipment, tools, objects, or controls. The Vehicle Safety Technician is occasionally required to stand and walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and may be required to taste or smell. The Vehicle Safety Technician must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to forty (40) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to one hundred (100) pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
