JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanic repairs and maintains hospital mechanical and plumbing equipment through the facility.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY A.
Reports to: Engineering Supervisor B.
Supervises:

Environmental Services and all Department Customers D.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A.
Understands, diagnoses and effectively employs appropriate procedures for maintenance of building systems. B. Performs maintenance on mechanical equipment, Understands and applies basic hydraulic, and electrical principles. C. Maintains basic parts inventories. D. Performs data entry on departmental preventive maintenance and work order software E. Attends training applicable to job performance enhancement as well as competency and departmental meetings. F. Supports and abides by all health center departmental and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. G. Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, philosophy and values of Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy. H. Constantly monitors their own performance and identifies ways to improve. I. Communicates with customers on the status of projects J. Works as a team member to accomplish departmental activities. K. Communicates with and performs duties following Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa Guiding Behaviors. L. Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPAA regulations. M. Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. N. Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development, and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs. O. Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization's Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors. P. Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. Q. Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager or department head.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS A.
Assists on request with winter snow removal. B. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and is able to trouble shoot C.S. equipment including steam sterilizers. C. Understands back flow prevention. D. Maintains documentation E. Responds to Code White calls
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS A.
Education [formal]: 1. High school education degree or equivalent required. 2. Post secondary education or formal technical training highly preferred. B.
Experience:
1. A minimum of four years' experience as building maintenance mechanic. C.
Special Skills and Competencies:
1. Mechanical aptitude. 2. Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. 3. Proficiency in interpreting drawing, details and specifications 4. Working knowledge of codes (UBC and local) 5. Valid drivers license required. 6. Able to work under stressful conditions. 7. Must be able to wear appropriate mask and be fit tested on an annual basis •
Completes Mandatory Reporting:
Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 5 years
Motor Vehicle:

  • If required to operate Mercy vehicle, will need to have proof of and maintain valid driver's license on file with Human Resources.
