Automotive Technician Gregory Hyundai Highland Park, IL Job Details Full-time $22 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Employee discount Qualifications Automotive electrical systems Automotive repair Brake repair High school diploma or GED Vehicle maintenance Alignment Full Job Description IAMAW Mechanics' Local 701 Skilled Technician (you do not need to be a current union member) Job Summary A Skilled Technician performs mid-level mechanical repairs and diagnostics under the general supervision of a Shop Foreman or Journeyman. You are expected to handle tasks that require more than basic fluid changes but do not necessarily require the mastery of complex engine or transmission overhauls.
Core Responsibilities Intermediate Repairs:
Perform work on brake systems (pads, rotors, calipers), suspension components (shocks, struts, control arms), and cooling systems.
System Diagnostics:
Conduct basic electrical troubleshooting and use scanners to pull fault codes.
Vehicle Inspections:
Perform comprehensive safety and service inspections (often including video inspections, which are specifically compensated under the 2026 contract).
Tool Usage:
Proficiency with shop equipment such as tire balancers, alignment machines, and common pneumatic/power tools.
Documentation:
Accurately record repair orders and communicate adjustments or additional service needs to the Service Advisor.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
Typically 2+ years of professional experience in an automotive shop (often progressing from a Lube Tech or Apprentice position).
Education:
High school diploma or GED; enrollment in or completion of a program like the Local 701 Training Fund is standard.
Tools:
You must possess your own professional-grade tool set.
Physicality:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and work in a physically demanding environment (bending, reaching, and standing for long periods).
