RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for diagnosing problems, making repairs, and performing service and maintenance to multiple types of University equipment including automotive vehicles and shop equipment. They assist in the scheduling and distribution of vehicles, as needed and assist in maintaining the garage, including maintaining the supply of automotive parts. This position requires the ability to operate state vehicles in accordance with Federal and State law (to include appropriate licensures).

$17.01 - $18.71 Western Illinois University employees may be eligible for a variety of State of Illinois benefits. These benefits are administered through the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS).

Job Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Possession of a valid driver's license as required by the State of Illinois for the type of motor vehicle(s) to be operated by the incumbent. Any combination totaling four (4) years (48 months) from the following categories: A. Coursework in automotive body repair, automotive mechanics technology, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
  • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
  • Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
  • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months) B.
Successful completion of a certification test by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) equals one (1) year (12 months). C. Professional (i.e., full-service commercial, military, governmental, educational) work experience performing general mechanical work on various types of vehicles. For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). The degree must be conferred at the time of application.
