Transportation Shop Mechanic Full-time/261 days a year with benefits Starting pay is $24.13 up to $28.11 an hour. Salary commensurate with experience. •All employees must complete a nationwide criminal history check An SHCSC Mechanic is supervised by the Transportation Coordinator. A mechanic plans, schedules, and performs repairs and preventive maintenance on the corporation's bus fleet. A mechanic assists in the maintenance of cars, trucks, and other motorized vehicles. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records for all corporation vehicles and equipment Recommend major equipment and vehicle replacements Prepare vehicles for annual State Police bus inspections Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild vehicle systems as needed Operate and maintain shop equipment to support repair work Attend required training and apply knowledge to daily tasks Demonstrate effective collaboration with colleagues to ensure efficient operations Performs other duties as assigned by the Coordinator or the administrative staff. Communicate professionally with bus drivers to understand concerns, explain repairs, timelines, and potential issues Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator or administrative staff
Mechanic Requirements:
High school diploma or GED. Degree or Certificates in Diesel Mechanic Technology or equivalent experience Class B CDL, with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements and No Air Brake Restriction (or ability to obtain), position is contingent upon meeting all requirements to obtain a CDL Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to safely handle hazardous materials. Heavy Duty/Medium Duty Truck Service Experience School Bus Maintenance Experience Computer/Technology Proficiency Must have or become ASE or equivalent certified, as determined by the Transportation Coordinator Must be prepared and qualified to drive all vehicles when necessary. Other duties may be assigned by the Transportation Coordinator $ 0.30 /HR for each ASE Certification, Current or Obtained
