Full Job Description Summary:
The Light Vehicle Technician will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on all vehicles, other rolling stock, and non-rolling equipment in the City's fleet.
Responsibilities:
This entry-level position maintains and repairs the City's light fleet vehicles and equipment by inspecting, diagnostic testing, and performing preventative maintenance and repairs such as tune-ups, oil changes, transmission services, and brake and suspension repairs. Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs problems with vehicles, other rolling stock, and non-rolling equipment in the city fleet, focuses on preventative maintenance and repairs such as tune-ups, oil changes, fluid changes, transmission services, and brake and suspension repairs. Troubleshoots operator complaints and concerns by following the industry's proper diagnostic and troubleshooting methods outlined by the manufacturer's procedures and specifications. Maintains vehicle and equipment functionality by performing test drives to verify repairs and ensure proper operation of light fleet vehicles. Performs diagnostic and maintenance activities, inspecting and determining problem areas; helps analyze failures and determines problems and causes. Performs accurate measurements and confirms tolerances. Keeps track of vehicle repair records by inputting informative notes on work orders and updating mileage and hours of all light equipment and vehicles in database. Contains costs of equipment maintenance by identifying warrantable repairs that can be completed at the dealership as well as searching for technical service bulletins that aid in improving diagnostic and repair time. Conducts routine contact with others regarding complex matters within standard protocols. Safely handles multiple tools and equipment necessary to complete tasks. Subject to occasional call-back.
Qualifications:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: HS Diploma/GED with additional specialized training in automotive/mechanical repair preferred. Two years of experience in a range of automotive diagnostic skills with a focus on mechanical and electrical experience. Must be willing to participate in compensated training classes or seminars when available, on or off regular duty hours.
