Job Description

The purpose of this classification is to perform service maintenance, tire repair and replacement services. Performs routine vehicle and equipment maintenance: greases, lubricates, fuels, and washes all vehicles. Change oil, and filters and maintain proper oil, water, brake, and transmission fluid levels. Maintain proper air pressure in tires. Service batteries as needed and clean engines. Clean up oil spills and crush oil filters according to department procedures. Replace, repair, rotate and/or change tires, mount tires, and fix flats. Uses tire shop remount and mount equipment following the outlined safety procedures. Program tire sensors. Use proper tools and knowledge of tire equipment. Operates a wrecker for road calls and call-outs. Provides service and road calls after hours and on weekends on a rotating basis; works in all weather conditions; conducts off-site emergency repairs as needed. Use computer and scanner to complete required paperwork and completing logs. Assists other fleet maintenance personnel with job duties as needed. Conducts State of Louisiana Motor Vehicle Inspections. Completes necessary paperwork pertaining to all aspects of maintenance performed on units: records parts and materials used, current vehicle mileage, user comments, and other information. High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in automotive maintenance or repair preferred. Six (6) months of experience in the routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment auto service or tire shop; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver's license within one month of hire. Will be required to obtain state of Louisiana Motor Vehicle Inspections certification within one year.
