Job Description
Performs skilled diagnostic, repair, and maintenance work on school buses, automobiles, light and medium duty trucks, and related equipment. Assists in major repair work and advanced electronic diagnostics. Inspects school buses, trucks, and cars in accordance with Maryland vehicle laws. Operates buses, trucks, automobiles, and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned of similar scope and complexity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience:
Possession of a high school diploma or an equivalent. Two years of experience in skilled automotive and/or truck diagnostic, repair and maintenance work. Note:

Licenses and Certifications Possession of a class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required at time of employment. Possession of a valid commercial, class B Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required within six months of hire. (The class B license may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of automotive repair and maintenance. Knowledge of automotive parts, components, and systems. Knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in automotive repair and maintenance. Skill in automotive and/or truck diagnostic, repair and maintenance work. Skill in the diagnosis of automotive malfunctions. Ability to complete assignments by established deadlines. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The work of this class involves frequent walking and standing, lifting and carrying of objects of moderate to heavy weight and the use of coordinative and manipulative skills in the operation of tools, vehicles, and equipment. Work requires exposure to garage environments that include exposure to dust, dirt, machinery, and equipment. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Persons appointed to this class are required to obtain a valid commercial, class B Maryland driver's license or an equivalent within six months of hire. Employees who do not obtain the required license will be terminated. Persons appointed to this class must be physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations and must remain physically qualified to operate such vehicles throughout their employment. Persons holding a commercial driver's license (CDL) are subject to alcohol and drug testing in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations and Board of Education policy. Persons appointed to this classification are designated as Essential-As-Needed Personnel and are required to work when schools and/or offices are closed during adverse weather conditions or any other emergency when contacted and directed to do so. This class specification defines the types of duties and level of difficulty of work required of positions in this title. Analyzes automotive malfunctions. Inspects, adjusts, repairs, and replaces various automotive components and systems such as brakes, ignitions, exhaust systems, and suspensions. Repairs and replaces starters, alternators and other automotive components. Maintains logs and reports for maintenance accountability. Makes minor repairs to sheet metal and fiberglass panels.
