Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW
Big Sky Land Management is seeking a reliable and motivated Shop Mechanic in Big Sky, Montana to support the maintenance and repair of our company fleet. This position will be primarily shop-based and will focus on regular servicing, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs for our fleet of Ram trucks, trailers, and small equipment. This role will also assist our Heavy Equipment Technicians with service and repair work as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform routine service and preventative maintenance on a fleet of Ram trucks, pickup trucks, trailers, and small equipment. Complete oil changes, filter changes, brake inspections and repairs, tire checks, fluid checks, and general vehicle inspections. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and drivability concerns. Assist Heavy Equipment Technicians with service, maintenance, and repairs on construction equipment as needed. Support maintenance on small equipment, including small diesel engines, water pumps, and other company assets. Utilize hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and complete repairs effectively. Read and interpret basic service information, schematics, and OEM repair procedures when needed. Assess parts and components to determine cause of failure or reusability. Perform minor repairs, adjustments, and basic electrical troubleshooting. Maintain accurate records of service and repairs performed. Help prioritize repairs to support daily business needs. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment. Support a positive attitude and team-focused work environment. Communicate openly with the Service Manager and Heavy Equipment Mechanics. Perform other maintenance-related tasks as requested. Service training will be available for mechanics to enhance their skills and continue education.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Previous experience working as a mechanic in a shop environment preferred. Experience with pickup trucks, diesel engines, trailers, small equipment, or fleet maintenance preferred. Must have own basic tools. Must demonstrate troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills. Interest in gaining hands-on experience with heavy equipment maintenance. Must be able to work well independently and with others in a team environment. Must be reliable, honest, and have a strong work ethic. Must have strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to stand for long periods of time along with walking, climbing, reaching, pulling, leaning, and twisting. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. Must have a current valid driver's license. CDL is optional but would be beneficial.
DESIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent. Technical training related to vehicles/trucks, diesel engines, or equipment. Experience with Ram trucks, on-highway dump trucks, fleet maintenance, and construction equipment is preferred.
